Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy

Which of the other nine do you also think are obsolete?
None of them. They are all found in the New Testament.

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
one Lord, one faith, one baptism
Ephesians 4:5

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image...
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
1 Corinthians 10:14

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain.
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
Colossians 3:8

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
???????

5. Honour thy father and thy mother...
Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Ephesians 6:1

6. Thou shalt not kill.
Now the workd of the flesh are evident, which are......envy, murders,drunkeness...
Taken from Galatians 5:20-21

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleaness, lewdness.
Galatians 5:19

8. Thou shalt not steal.
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:8

If you are supposed to love one another, are you really going to steal from someone?

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Bearing false witness is lyings, isn't it? In that case:

Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man and his deeds.
Colossians 3:9

10. Thou shalt not covet...
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleaness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Colossians 3:5

We also see clearly in the following verses that some old testament rules still apply:

For the commadments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet, and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Romans 13:9

Where, in the New Testament, are we told that we should no longer keep the Sabbath Day Holy?

A New Covenant
For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah-not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt; because they did not continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.............In that He sats, A new covenant, He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Hebrews 8:7-13

I don't know how much clearer it could possibly be.

This kind of reasoning sounds like a cop out to me, but then I guess people will figure out a way to get around any of the commandments they don't care to take seriously.

Don't insinuate that I don't what to follow all of God's commands. I will do whatever He asks of me, and I am ready to follow His Word down to a tee. I just don't believe that we are ordered to keep that Sabbath holy.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate anything. I was simply curious as to what your reasoning was. If God commands something and then never says, "Never mind; don't bother with that one any more," I think it's safe to assume that it's still in effect. So, if you don't mind, is Sunday pretty much just another day to you? Do you pretty much carry on with your Monday through Saturday activities once you get home from church? (I know from another thread that you do attend church.)

Is this how you also interpret the commandment "Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy"? I guess I'm interested in how you define the "Sabbath Day."

i thought i had just explained what i think of "the sabbath day" - i don't see it as a set time we must refuse to do any work in, that would lead to big complicationsin my life!

to me, what it means is that through out my life, i should be mindful that i can't always be doing everything, and i need to keep some time to rest - but that "some time" means time in every day! i love the time between 22:00 and 00:00 because that is "me" time, no one bothers me, and i can just "lay back" so to speak, and rest!

i keep to the message that i can see in the "god rested on the seventh day" and i believe the commandment in the OT is reiterating that. so, yes, i really do think i am following that commandment (even though it is the old covenant with God)

Hardly!

EVERY Covenant God creates is faultless!

Which is why there were others before these (now lost to history), and why there have been several more since then!

It's not a question of their being "defective," but rather of His promulgating new ones periodically to provide humanity God's laws and teachings for the Age and circumstances as humanity (and religion!) evlove and progress....

So just as Jesus altered and abolished certain Jewish laws and brought new Divine Teachings, so God causes this renewal to happen as needed throughout time! . . .

Best, :)

No problem!

So, if you don't mind, is Sunday pretty much just another day to you?

Absolutely. I believe that every day should be dedicated to God. I believe we should worship Him every day. So, aside from the fact that church is on Sunday, it is just another day, and no more holy than the rest.

EVERY Covenant God creates is faultless!

Ummm....I don't know if you caught that little detail or not, but the section in my former post titled "a new covenant" was taken directly from the Bible....maybe you should go back and read it...? I don't know if the Bible was saying that the Old Testament was faulty as in wrong, but I think it may have been saying it was faulty in the fact that the Old Testament no longer applied.

If God commands something and then never says, "Never mind; don't bother with that one any more," I think it's safe to assume that it's still in effect.

So you believe we should still murder homosexuals, witches, etc?

I presented the verses about the New Covenant taking the place of the old, I think that makes it pretty clear.
