Clergy?

I was just wondering if there are any clergy members participating/posting here. I'm using the word clergy in the broadest sense: ordained, licensed, certified, recognized, called, identified, whatever the proper designation is for worship/congregation/assembly leaders of your faith tradition.

No deep meaning or veiled implications here--just curious!

Thanks!

I went to seminary to become a pastor, but in the end stopped short of being ordained. These days I teach, and it is not so much of an adjustment, really.

Question Everything
The original apostles (Mathew, Mark, Luke,...) were not educated/licensed clergymen.. the Pharisees/Sadducees were, and they killed Jesus...

Yeah unless Pilate and his court were Jews, I think the Romans killed Jesus!!

I was briefly a Buddhist monk (clergy), and a temple boy for a longer time (sort of like a deacon, perhaps). Some people think that that commitment extends even after you go back to being a lay person, I'm not sure though.

With my limited knowledge of what kind of rulers the Romans were, it is my distinct impression that they didn't let any of their conquered people tell them what to do, they made the rules.

Yet exceptions do occur. Pilate was threatened Gospels tell us.

What Pilate was threatened by is the thought of a Jewish leader causing a physical rebellion against Roman rule, he decided Jesus fit that category and had him put to death, or at least tried to put him to death.

Matthew 27:24
24When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this Man's blood; see to that yourselves."25And all the people said, "His blood shall be on us and on our children!"…

Jewish clergy threatened Pilate and ensured that Jesus be hanged.

Jehovah's Witnesses have no clergy either. We have elders who are teachers but there are no paid clergy.
Every one of Jehovah's Witnesses is an ordained minister and we are all preachers of God's kingdom.
We are all educated in the same way with Bible study and training for the ministry every week.

Er...I am a former Christian theology student and youth leader (basically an assistant youth pastor who preached). Does that count?

Thinking back on my deacon years (in liberal Lutheran parlance, sort of like being an intern), I suspect that most ordained and currently employed clergy would love, but do not have anything like enough free time, to participate regularly on a discussion forum.

They are always on call, and for an absurd variety of emotionally draining tasks. I would expect we have few practicing doctors and nurses on RF for similar reasons. They don't get much time off, and they need it for prayer, meditation, and personal healing.

Just out of curiosity, does that mean that any JW can conduct a marriage ceremony? I went to a JW wedding, and it was very different than other weddings I had attended ... especially the Homily.

Thanks taking the time to respond. I don't know much about Jehovah's Witness and appreciate the information.
