Racist Terrorist kills 9 black worshippers :(

The Emperor of Mankind

Currently the galaxy's spookiest paraplegic
@Servant_of_the_One1 , @A Disgruntled Scotsman : It seems to me that derailing this into some agenda driven (a) rant against "Atheist Terrorism" or (b) "atheism is only the lack of belief" debate does a real disservice to the topic. What we have here is a despicable racist hate crime enacted by a despicable bigot.

And if somebody doesn't check Servant's arguments he'll probably try and turn this unfortunate incident into another example of how atheism is evil, immoral and motivates people to commit crimes etc and do so while remaining unchallenged. Sadly by this point it seems a tad late to stop the thread being derailed.

Mental health checks mean nothing. All it is is another hoop that civilians have to jump through to get a gun. If a criminal wants a gun, they'll get it or use other weapons. I don't know if it's news to you, but criminals don't follow the law. That's why they are criminals to begin with, so they will get it through illegal means. Have people never heard of the black market?

You do realize that it is significantly more difficult to acquire goods on the black market then in the normal market, right?

If somebody in that church carried some weapon there'd be less deaths or no deaths perhaps.

Somebody in that church did carry some weapon.

We must remember this man doesn't represent all white people, the same if a black person shot white people in their church, we don't blame all black people, and also with cops, don't blame all cops for the very few who stuff up.

Wow

We are witnessing more atheist inspired terrorism.
Iam afraid that Atheist Terrorism will provoke world war 3.

It seems to me that it is quite hypocritical for someone who supports religious fascism to pretend that he cares about sectarian violence in the least. Perhaps you need to look in the mirror before talking about "atheist inspired terrorism."

You don't seriously believe that the Founding Fathers didn't consider that guns would become advanced in the future, do you?

After sorting out the double negative in this sentence the answer is "correct, the Founding Fathers were not considering Uzis and such at the time".
Similarly, they would be rolling in their graves if they knew that kiddie porn and other such things were being protected by their efforts to protect political expression in the public domain.

How can this violence be overcome?
It seems racist terrorism is increasing in thr USA, spearheaded by some racists pretending to be cops. Well hey cops is supposed to protect human lifes and not to shoot unarmed guy 5times because of his colour.
Yes. It is sad.

I think he should be locked in a cell, and receive no visitors, phone calls, letters or anything. I think he should be left alone with nothing but food until he dies.

In what way is child porn protected? And by child porn I mean material that depicts actual children who were abused, assaulted, and exploited in its production.

Back in the day kiddie pornographers were dealt with by being beaten until they are bent and lame.

One of my life experiences was calling the cops on one. What I got was months of death threats. I nearly caved and bought a gun.
Even after the shootout at his house, he was still being protected by the judiciary. Until it was demonstrated to a jury that the pics and videos on his computer were real. Which never happened, because he died in custody.
Oh darn.
His rights were carefully protected while the cops told me that there was nothing they could do for me.

It's worse than that.......
Roof is an avowed atheist.
Some RF members absolutely refuse to recognise that atheists could be violent against religions, churches etc.
I keep telling these denialists 'don't hold your breath'...........

Unsourced, contrary to available evidence. He was a member of his family's Lutheran church:

"He was on the roll of our congregation," Rev. Tony Metze of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, told The Huffington Post. Metze is also the pastor to Roof's family, and said he has been providing them with "Christian care" since the shooting. The pastor did not respond to questions on how often Roof had attended the church or if had been there recently. He referred HuffPost to the South Carolina Lutheran synod bishop, who did not immediately respond to request for comment.

In a previous interview with
CNN, Metze said Roof's sister, who was supposed to get married this weekend, had postponed the wedding, and that Roof's family was praying for victims' families. In that interview, he also said Roof was being ministered to while in jail.

He also holds the Confederacy in high esteem.

That being said, his motivation was clearly not religion , much less theism (although I am intrigued to know how you decided he was an atheist; on the basis of his scriptural debate with AME church members?). His motivation was racism, and the confederacy, if you recall, considered itself on a divine mission.

I can't help but feel this is a microcosm of about 90% of history. Pale mother****er shows up, they shrug and say "come on bro, we got food", and it all ends with most of them dead and the pasty-white guy sitting on a throne of corpses, sipping bourbon while the survivors have been re-purposed into farm equipment.

Or as it's known in the US, "Thanks giving".

This was definitely racially motivated, but it has nothing to do with his lack of religion. Also, this is not "terrorism" by any sense of the word.

Terrorism (n): The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

This was just one man, being a racist, who wanted to murder others because he is mentally unstable.

sigh. Someone needs to shatter a glass dildo in his ***. More "Lost Cause" and "The South was fighting for their rights" bull****.

Though in fairness he wasn't entirely wrong. The South *was* fighting for state's rights. Their right to enslave Negroes.

Except he thought Blacks were destroying America.

On his website he whines of the lack of skinheads, neo nazis and klansmen.

He was no doubt a White Nationalist and political. The unwillingness to label far right wing groups as terrorist just allows them to continue to grow.

Meant to ask, do you have a source for this? I hadn't seen much on his religion, or lack thereof.
By the way, your statement completely misrepresents what most RF members would say. Anyone who thinks an atheist can't be violent is demonstratably an idiot, but I'm yet to see anyone actually make that argument.

Aye, I searched the internet, & can't find any religious/non-religious affiliation for Dylann Roof.
But he is a KKK supporter, which is Xian.
That's a hint, but he could just be a fan of their racial persuasion.

Atheists can certainly be murderous thugs, but people shouldn't leap to the presumption that must because he's a mass murderer that he's necessarily one of us.
Anyone of any faith can be a mass murder.

Mental illness can affect any people. It just turns out that atheism does not encourage it, while theism does.
