The former empire was pretty much in free-fall well before WW1, Nietzche.
I really don't think it would've suffered as drastic a collapse without losing WW1. Had it sat out the war, or been on the winning side, it's possible, even probable, that the Sublime Porte would've been able to crush the Wahhabies and Nationalists in their cribs. After all, Arab Nationalism only really got traction due to French & British aid.

When I saw the results of the elections in Middle Eastern countries after the "Arab Spring" revolutions, I had the impression that most Israeli voters were generally more prudent in their political decisions than others in the Middle East. The fact that Netanyahu has been elected again makes me suspect that I was wrong.

You are judging middle east with a western mentality, no wonder every western policy in the middle east failed. Israelis elected right wing gov't exactly because the Middle East is hitting up again. In situations like this you are supposed to elect a leader who will have the b...s to take action. No olive branch has ever stopped a bullet. Israelis will elect liberals when middle east will make peace but until than, when middle east thanks to western policies have radical groups gaining power everywhere, only a suicide idiot would elect leftists.

Arent the zionists who are occupying Palestine? Stealing land of the Palestinians? Killing Palestinian babies?

You can deny that if u like.

All arabs should be expelled from Israel, all they do is just kill people, not one arab country has succeeded in building a normal state and arabs living in Israel no better. They are only capable of killing people and blaming it on others.

Common delete my post but every word I said is truth and you can't change that. Facts speak for them self's.

Netanyahu won!!!

Really depends how you define "winning".

Right wing parties:
2013 - Likud + Yisrael Beiteinu + Habayit Hayehudi = 43 seats
2015 - Likud + Yisrael Beiteinu + Habayit Hayehudi = 44 seats

Left wing parties:
2013 - Labour + Meretz + Hatnuah = 27 seats
2013 - Labour + Hatnuah + Meretz = 28 seats

Religious Parties:
2013 - Shas + UTJ = 18 seats
2015 - Shas + UTJ = 13 seats

Centre Parties:
2013 - Yesh Atid = 21 seats
2015 - Yesh Atid + Kulanu = 21 seats

Arab parties:
2013 - Hadash + Balad + UAL = 11 seats
2015 - Joint List = 14 seats

Someone's mad that the Kahane scum didn't make it into the Knesset.

Not every day you see someone advocating the expulsion (or killing) of 1.6 million people, or 20% of the population, from a state, based on their ethnicity and religion. In fact, I can only think of a handful of comparable instances.

I'm with you, CMike. And when I got home tonight, I find out it wasn't really even close. I think CAIR was running some of those phony polls showing Bibi "behind". Lol!

The thing about it is, Bibi is ready and CAN work with others globally and in the region, and at a time everyone doesn't want to even drink a beer with the boob Obama except Iran Mullahs who see him as a sucker and sap. Others, including Dems do not even want to be in a photo with O because any association with Obama means you are going to lose an election... But the joke is, even the Mullahs won't drink a beer with him because there is one thing me and the Mullahs share and that is we are teetotalers. Frankly, I would rather have a cup of tea with one of the Ayatollahs than Obama, it wouldn't surprise me we would hit it off and come to so better solution than Obama could ever pull off.

So I am really going to get into Israel more, perhaps a vacation there.

By the way a lot of the problems in the ME go back to WW1. But that is a long story.

Which is all the more reason to hope against the election of a flameraiser like Netanyahu.

Hey Luis,

My hope is that further war in the ME is avoided. I'm not at all convinced that Netanyahu winning increases the chance of war. I don't think there is any compromise the Arabs will stick to, so I think a strong stance is the best hope.

Sorry to be blunt, Icehorse, but a "strong" stance by that measure is basically asking for doom.

So Luis,

Are you saying that the Arabs will at some point agree to a compromise and then honor it?
