if someone were to be a christian, or a catholic, is it against their religion to drink? to smoke?
to practice drunkenness would be scriptually wrong, but the bible does not say abstain , in fact the bible says ....A little wine is benefical and makes the heart rejoice..... psalm 104;15
(Ecclesiastes 9:7) Go, eat your food with rejoicing and drink your wine with a good heart, because already the [true] God has found pleasure in your works.............. smoking is a defilement of the flesh
Therefore, since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God’s fear.2 corinthians7;1 would it be showing love to others if we make others take in this nicotine when we smoke it ....passive smoking .......... bible principles come into play regarding smoking

I smoke, sometimes I drink, and worse besides... yeah well I'm not Christian but the bible's right on that score. Treat your body badly and it lets you know about it.

I'm not a Christian but I do think everything in moderation is the key. Is drinking at all a sin? No I don't think so. Personally I figure if the Rastas can have the weed as their sacriment I can have a 12 year old Macallans scotch as mine. LOL!

Some conservative groups and individuals have a pietistic practice of avoiding tobacco and alcohol. The Mormons have (I think) a prophecy against nicotine, caffeine and alcohol.

As a general rule, though, no.

so are we just talking cigarettes and alcohol? does it include pot?
I don't see anything wrong with smoking pot if you don't do it everyday.
i don't drink or smoke cigarettes.

happy 420 all....

I agree with this sentiment. There is nothing wrong with drinking. As long as it doesn't become a stubbling block and sidetrack you into a drunkard, dependent on alcohol.

Smoking is bad for you period. But, I don't see it as a 'sin' per se. Just something you should avoid for the sake of your body.

I personally don't see smoking pot as being any different than drinking. But the issue again is dependency. All things in moderation, including food. :)
