I was wondering if there are any practicing, true spiritualist interacting in this forum?

Spiritualism:
Spiritualism is the science, philosophy and religion of continuous life, based upon the demonstrated fact of communication, by means of mediumship, with those who live in the spirit world.

A Spiritualist is one who believes, as the basis of his or her religion, in the communication between this and the spirit world by means of mediumship, and who endeavors to mold his or her character and conduct in accordance with the highest teachings derived from such communion.

A Medium is one whose organism is sensitive to vibrations from the spirit world and through whose instrumentality intelligence in that world are able to convey messages and produce the phenomena of Spiritualism.

A Spiritualist Healer is one who, either through his or her own inherent powers or through his or her mediumship, is able to impart vital, curative force to pathological conditions.

The phenomena of Spiritualism consist of prophecy; clairvoyance; clairaudience; gift of tongues; laying on of hands, healing; visions; trance; apports; revelation; levitation; raps; automatic and independent writing and paintings photography;
materialization; psychometry; voice and any other manifestation proving the continuity of life as demonstrated through the physical and spiritual senses and faculties of humans.

I saw spiritualism in a post somewhere, and I thought to ask some questions.
I also read that Spiritualist do believe in God, just not as the Christians see Him. They call "Him?" a universal intelligence.

It's an interesting belief system and it also reminds me of Universal Unitarianism with high emphasis on talking with passed spirits. I was watching a clip on one of the sermons and they were serving a "communion." So, I am assuming, like UU, it still have Christian roots (if it did from the beginning?)

--

In your point of view, as a Spiritualist, what does it mean to you? How long and why have you been a spiritualist? Where you drawn to it or was it drawn to you?

I'm more interested in learning rather than debating.

Thanks guys!

I do not know how Spiritualism may be represented on RF, but for further information about this faith tradition in the present day, you may want to check out the website of a town in western NY called Lily Dale. It is a community of Spiritualists who invite visitors to participate in educational programs and readings. I haven't visited yet, but have long been fascinated by this unique place.

I'm not in the area.. but will look at the site. I do have a spiritualist Church near me, surprisingly, but I can't drive and no buses run on Sundays, so I'm hoping to swing by there on a weekday and get information instead. I hope it isn't like the UU Church I visited. They were very anti-christian; and, it makes the community less open to diversity although they promote it. (Just the Church I visited)
