Muslims give the message of Prophet Muhammad a lot of importance, also to his holyness and sanctity. Furthermore they see him as the most complete being in universe, his spirit, his wisdom and his appearance. Therefore they consider no other man, like an actor and no painting and picture in general being capable to describe his appearance.

I want Khilafah back
Islam prophibits the making of images, so Muhammed could not and would not allow someone to make a drawing of him.

Those who create images of anything that has a soul (humans, animals, insects, birds) will have the severest of punishment. They will be asked on the day of judgment to place a soul into that image/creature/human that they drew. They will be placed in hell until they can create a soul and bring their image to life, something that no one can do other than Allah and thus they will remain in hell for eternity.

So you are technically not allowed the images of any animal? What about photographs?

Lol its me. Time to debate
Basically, Its really a long debate but I am giving you two reasons.

1. It hurts Muslims, its untolerateable and unbearable.
2. This one's a bit complicated. Allah/God loves Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) a lot. God is extremely angry to those who make photos especially of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W., His beloved, the best from all Creations. Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) was extremely kind and Merciful, He never wanted that people may burn in hell but if someone creates His (S.A.W.) pictures, He burns in hell.
So, Prophet ordered at some occasions to kill the blasphemers because if one blasphemer is killed, Others don't commit blasphemy and they get a chance to be saved from Hell torment

Hey don't worry about it. You're not disrespectful :)

I honestly don't know why. What I look at here, is the reason of drawings it and how most Muslims feel about it. The whole world knows that most Muslims see it offensive, let alone the fact that the vast majority of the drawings of him so far were intended to offend Muslims and Islam.

It is a humane instinct to respect how people feel. I really wonder why would people draw Muhammad in an offensive way intentionally to hurt Islam and the feelings of Muslims while they (the artists) perfectly know that they (the Muslims) don't like it and feel offended about it.

All in all, I think what started all this was the offensive drawings of Muhammad not the simple fact of drawing him. Not sure tho.

And by the way, don't worry about offending me with simply asking questions. People need to ask question to learn and I respect that :)

What about biology text books and medical texts that necessitate the depiction of humans? Are these truly forbidden?

Drawing, taking photos, sculpting, none of these things are forbidden. It's not even mentioned in Qur'an. Lot's of Muslims think it's forbidden to draw or make images, it's a lie.

Hi there. There is a saying of the prophet Muhammad (saw) where he tells his people to not take a drawing of him, because he does not want people in the future to worship him as people did in the past to their own prophets.

This is one reason.

The other reason is basically that the status and character of the prophet (saw) is so high, that we don't have to see how he looks like, it is of little importance. What matters is his spirit and character, and that is what we should focus on.

It is because of emphasis in Islam that Allah is the only god. No picture means no reverence of Mohammed as some sort of god.

You are right. And in fact, the opposite is mentioned. For instance, as a part of the miracle, Prophet Soleiman orders jinnkind to sculpture and paint for him (to beautify his Kingdom).

They would make for him anything that he wanted like fortresses, statues, large basins like reservoirs, and huge immovable cooking pots. It was said, "Family of David, worship and act gratefully. Only few of my servants are grateful." (Holy Quran, 34:13)

However, the hadiths (traditions of Prophet Muhammad) in sunni and shia sources against sculptring, etc. -if authentic- must be for a nation which just got out of idol-worshipping and should not apply all. Because otherwise, we would not have this verse mentioned above.

Thus, Islam condemns drawing, sculpting, etc. if idolworship is the issue, and Islam approves such arts if they are performed as arts as in now.

About the topic, I believe brother Outlandish's reply is the best explanation.
