Book Reviews

The Sum of Awe

Brought to you by the moment that spacetime began.
Wouldn't surprise me if there is a thread made with the same topic, however never seeing one, other than "What are you Reading" in which most of the time the posts do not exactly have a full detailed review, usually because they are currently reading it.

Are there any books you liked? What did you like about it? Or perhaps disliked. I hope to work this thread in a way like "What is the Last Movie You Watched", with a review.

To start off, I have a question:

How is Dracula by Bram Stoker? I picked up a copy today from walmart.

How about Zoo by James Patterson? I picked that up as well and will begin reading it tomorrow.

I've only read one of Patterson's novels and that was one too many, IMO. :D

He makes Stephen King look like Shakespeare.

Have you read his Maximum Ride series? I liked it, however not sure if I read the entire series, forgot where I stopped, forgot how many there were.

Lol, nice. I do think that is his most popular one.

This just shows diverse opinions :D

Also, I'd like to mention, Robopocalypse by Dan H Wilson is a major dislike for me. I guess it just has to do with his writing style. While interesting and well written, I struggled to reach the 10th page in a week, then stopped.

I know this is an old thread but it seemed like a cool thread to revise.

I only read one religious book in the last 5 years or so but I really digg'd it.

Kevin Roose---"The Unlikely Disciple" The book covers Kevin's time at Jerry Falwell's --Liberty University. Roose's was raised Quaker and was really far to the left when contrasted to the culture he encountered at Liberty. The book is his personal tale about attending a semester at Liberty, trying to connect to those who were so different from him and the reflections he had from his time at Liberty. His website is below and it has a link to the book on the site.

Being on a mainly religious forum I'd mention The Temple by Brian Smith which is about a young man's descent into religious fanaticism and how society responds or fails to properly respond. The young man falls in with a fictitious religious group who follow The Holy Dryvel, a book at the heart of the temple and temple master Jeremiah who keeps finding new and clever ways to cheat people. But when he goes too far things turn violent. It reminded me no of the abuses of one particular religion today but of those committed by a number of different ones. Very entertaining and there was a lot to learn.
Best of all it's available for free Smashwords – The Temple – a book by Brian Smith (This is a legal copy, not pirated)

Late to the party as usual, but I'll throw my two cents in anyway. :D
Recently finished Cinder (see how late I always am?) loved it. A nice little break from my previous read lol. The story, the characters and the Lunars were awesome. Perhaps not the most fleshed out but eh first book in a series so forgivable. Reading Orthello at the moment. It's fun to learn about olde timey swear words and insults :p

I just finished Pushkin's The Captain's Daughter. My review is this: don't know what the fuss is about.
