North America.One nation?

My engish teacher was talking the other day about how Bush and the presidents of Canada and Mexico are wanting to join the three and make one large nation. I'm a little weary of its validity but I didn't know if anyone else heard anything about it. ???

Your English teacher sounds like a moron. I don't think that politically the three countries will ever become one during my lifetime. Economically it might be a different story though. Free trade is usually a good thing.

Ya, he might be a moron. He has some crazy beliefs but sometimes he does sound like he knows what he's talkin' about.

Start asking him questions. You'll find out pretty quick if he knows what he's talking about. :D

The first question I would have asked is whether or not he was referring to a political or economic union. We already have an economic union to some extent. It's called NAFTA. Techincally, it's a free trade area. The European Union is a good example of an Economic Union. The United States are an example of a political union.

I have my doubts that will happen anytime soon. Considering the anti-Canadian views alot of Americans either jokingly or seriously hold, and some other issues, such as Bush trying to repair a damaged alliance (if it could have been called that to begin with), I don't see that happening. And then thier is the whole issue with the Mexicans. I doubt they would push for it because if the three countries were one, then the imigrants, both legal and illegal, would lose thier benefits for coming to America, so while it just might work to free up jobs for locals were Mexicans flock, it would have no benefit for the Mexicans.

Er. Sounds like your English teacher has no clue what he's talking about. Or was trying to get a reaction out of the class.

At least if we all became one nation we wouldn't have immigration issues... :p

We'd have all of those Columbians running the border into Panama

That's ridiculous. Even if this were on the table...the U.S. would gain nothing from Mexico other than a new southern region worse than the one we have now.

First of all, someone screwed up. Canada does not have a 'president'. Canada has a Prime Minister.

Secondly, as a Canadian I can assure you that there's no talk of that here. There was a time when I would have welcomed the idea but no more. Over the past five years Ameridcans have lost so much of their freedom that they no longer live in a free society and I for one would not want to experience that loss of freedom. Additionally, our health care system is something I'd never want to have to give up.

lol Canada and Mexico have nothing to offer America. I assure you, we will never let Canada or Mexico into the United States. (That's what illegal immigration is for...)

Hey, you guys forgotten the advantage of Canada and Mexico becoming part of US (ie become several states of the United States)
(1) Very likely Bush and the neo-conservative will lose out, the we shall have a new liberal President for the new country
(2) Mad Cow will become the same issue
(3) No more soft wood issue
(4) Canadian soldiers will be in the Iraq
(5) The north America air space program will move forward without any problem
(6) Perhaps US will start going into Metric
etc etc.

Hey, not too bad an idea.
