2 of every kind?

why do people teach their kids that it was 2 of every animal that went on the ark?
I mean they teach this in church and there's no biblical support for this.
seven of the clean and 2 of the unclean. how hard is it to tell the truth or what's the matter with telling them that?

Perhaps it was two of every "kind" that disembarked when the Ark landed. Some of the clean may have been used for ritual sacriface and/or eating.

I think 2 of Each animal reffered to Mummy and daddies of each animal.............:D

but does it tell us that in the bible?
I'm just wondering why you would teach that Noah took 2 of every knd of animal on the ark?

From:-http://www.gotquestions.org/Noahs-ark-questions.html

How many of each type of animal did Noah take on the ark? Seven of each kind of clean animal and two of each kind of other animals were taken on the ark (Genesis 6:19-20; 7:2-3). By “clean” the Bible means animals that were "acceptable for sacrifice." That is why seven of the clean animals were taken – so they could be sacrificed after the Flood was over. Obviously if there were only two of an animal, a male and a female, and one was sacrificed - that species of animal would become extinct.

That is a contradiction in the Bible.
(Genesis 6: 19) states that "You are to bring into the Ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you."

Then it turns around and says what it says in (Genesis 7: 2) about the 7 clean and 2 unclean.

I also think that they had seven of the clean for food and for sacrifices

I have no idea, but maybe the sacrifice part is avoided for the childrens' sake.

Ormiston, this is not directed to you, i am just using your quote as a basis.

I cant see why anyone would allow parts of the core beliefs of most Christians to be omited when teaching it to your children...Wouldn't you want your child to have all the "facts" when passing on your belief structure? Or just the parts that ensure your childs devotion to your faith?

This is not directed towards anyone in particular. There are some people who selectively pick verses to teach their children to acheive the desired effect, whether it be cleaning their room or keeping the faith. There are some people who have very little knowledge of their faith and teach their children on their recollections of stories they heard as children. There are some people who use short children's books to share bible stories, and those books may not entirely jive with the actual scripture. Frankly, of all the verses to have a memory lapse on, the correct number of animals isn't too bad. I'd be more concerned if they forgot "thou shall not covet thy neighbors wife..." or "thou shall not murder."

Personally, I would want my child to read scripture for herself and come to her own decision. Misleading children about the basis of their faith builds a very poor foundation that cannot carry them through life.

exactly...Perhaps the number is not important until they get older. To an age where they can understand that that the Bible is not meant to be "fact". At the same time, knowing that may also factor in to the continuation of believing a faith that doesnt seem to mind "factual" inaccuracies. Especially when claiming that these instructions came from God.

Misleading a child in the department of faith to perserve your own point of view is a terrible way of passing on faith.
