I have to admit that on this one I kinda' agree with jonjohnrob11..... Psychology isn't always right (it wasn't that long ago that just about anything dealing with sex, like fetishes, being gay or transgendered was considered a mental illness by psychology)

I agree that newborns arn't fully aware of thier surroundings but I'm reasonalby certen that they can tell themselves from thier environment...
otherwise why cry when the environment isn't what they would like it to be? 8)

I don't agree with jonjohnrob11 that they are self aware at conception... not untill they deveolp more of a brain and start moving around purposefully... then yes they do start to learn in the womb... they learn to control thier bodies to some degree at the very least.

pw: thanx for your support. psychology is really a behavioral science. the urge for sex is only second to the urge to be loved. that's why there are more sexual sins than other type sin.
u might be interested in reading a dialogue with God by st. catherine of sienna. in it she states that a soul is infused around 20 days after conception of a male child and 40 for a woman.

jonjohn...
no problem... I call it like I see it :goodjob:

seems a bit odd...

St Catherine was probably influenced by the Bible. In that book you will often see that women are worth less than men, and that a woman is unclean twice as long after having given birth to a girl than after a boy's birth etc. etc., so it might have been considered more difficult to give a soul to a girl. Or, it might be twice as good a job when finished.

Speaking of "uncleanness", I have found no religion which is more positive to women than Sikhism. In its holy book, there is a saying which goes something like "Woman, who gives us prophets and princes, how could she ever be unclean?"

Knowledge is the ability to relate or recollect information and apply it in away that fully justifies that which is under observation and hence since we are are born with senses thus it is shown that input is necessary for knowledge to be accumulated when achild is first born the first sensoral input whatever it may be sight, touch... is the base awareness this cannot be stored permanently in long term memory because the being has not learnt the ability to corelate data and either refute as unacceptable or reaffirm its core understanding, thus sensoral input ,
accumulation of relevance, reafirmation and then knowledge either it be that of a simpleton or wise man.

painted wolf: i thought the same way why such a difference. maybe because a woman is His Mother and also because they are usually more compassionate then men. they are oor main nurse maids while a child.

littleseal: ure definition of knowledge sounds like a definition of love(relationships), thought process(recalling info., senses, reasoning) etc. knowlege is a memory of facts, opinions and beliefs by my definition. refer to such in this forum or general discussion. i'm not sure which one it's in. butch

I think that in psychology circles, the belief is that by far the most significant contribution to a person's character is their environment i.e. how they were brought up, treated etc. Very little is concerned with innate ability.

I'm not I agree with this logic entirely but how one is treated when they are young is clearly very important and I believe sets out the main pattern for an individual's life - especially in the developmental years of 0-6.

danny, the way we are raised indicates what we believe or choose to believe. saddam husseins two boys were made to kill innocent people at a very young age and were thus ruthless and brought up that way. God is just and understands such behavior and takes that into consideration when judging them for eternity. i also believe that people change either for better or worse every day. radical change is rare. gradual change is more in order. anyone can change if they so choose, no matter what age. but ure right the younger years have a large bearing on future conflicts.

It seems as though he or she was talking about education. That is what I get from it. The highre the education, the better off you are in the world.

Hi, this is interesting, I agree with the ones that we are born with the capacity to learn, cause how could you have preknowledge of say cars? Or is everything knowable before? But why are some prone for one thing or another/ Some people can take thing apart and put it back together no matter what it is. Because we have people do to physical reasons they are in better shape to do this or that, but just mentally some poeple are better at things than others. I think that your inviorment has a lot to do with it. If you are born poor in South America it will be alot different that rich in North America
