The best way to avoid such distractions is to not introduce them in the first place. And really....the Fox News card now?

Ahem... "the Fox News card"? Just scroll up a bit. Honestly, you'll find a picture-perfect example of what I'm talking about.

I have watched the video a few times.

What I got so far is:

- The alleged claim is that he was selling illegal untaxed cigarettes.
- The man was standing still, keeping a distance from the cops. He wasn't running away from police.
- He wasn't carrying any weapon.
- He wasn't threatening anyone.
- An idiot cop recklessly went straight for his throat to arrest him. Which resulted on his death.

Did I get everything correct so far?
This wasn't self-defense, so why the heck did they let the cop off the hook without a trial?

Spot on. The claim was he was selling cigarettes but the guy filming said he's being arrested for breaking up a fight. So far I haven't seen the evidence against Garner proving he was selling cigarettes...

Yes, racism exists in minority communities. Darker skinned blacks will often experience micro aggressions from lighter skinned blacks. It's much like how I as a woman will experience some pretty hostile and blatant sexism from other women.
But, come on, do we honestly live in a post racial society, where the only racism against people of color exists in those oh-so-kooky klansmen, but the ominous racism against whites is everywhere by the state?
It never fails. Mention the "r-word" and suddenly folks get huffy about it.
Huffy? Is this a sly objection to pointing out that racism is not the full picture? Since no one is actually claiming "ominous racism against whites", it's premature to make that inference. Consider what I point to, ie, that a police state will abuse anyone found in its sights, white, black, asian, hispanic, etc. We can become a multi-cultural rainbow coalition, & such travesties will still happen so long as cops can abuse their authority with impunity, & so long as we have too many laws against minor & victimless offenses.

Your example fails to paint the broad picture you claim. If you want to portray conservatives as the fans of what the cops did, you'll need more than that. But beware, the left is not without sin in this area. Ideally, it should be about the broken system & societal attitudes which lead to such tragedies.

I agree, and so do some other police, that the matter was not handled properly and the loss of his life was sad.

However there are simple facts that many who do not think logically often forget, and while some do.

Many police do their jobs very well. More then those who do not. Many in public who have done actions that are wrong, tend to act incorrectly, posing threat and place them self in a position to have extra force placed on them. If you are mindful, you can discuss things mindfully If you are improperly treated then file reports as much as possible as well as contact media when police act out of character. I feel this officer did not act properly.

The actions of this police officer was not well done. Hopefully better training for those officers will go into play. To consider peoples possible health issues, if those people are being honest. However there are far more cases of people claiming "I am hurt" and try to deceive and bolt from police, and risk citizens. You can not ask other citizens to be risked in those cases.

Protests can be good when done mindfully. Can result in a bad character for oneself and a community if not done properly. Riots and harm to any other citizen, officer, or official is not valid, mindful, or just. IT creates a symbol of people who can be dangerous, and police will be more on alert. If you want trust, act trust worthy yourself. Speak openly against bas situations, but act wise.

Race, color, ethnic aspects, should be no affect. Ethics are. Actions are. How you reflect yourself will be. Violent talk, actions, threats, or hateful words will be seen as potential danger. Peaceful truth, effort, and working as a community, with officials, can bring resolution, speaking a clear mind freely will do far more then speaking unclearly.

I send wishes to the family of the man who lost his life and hope they do not suffer. That the police that believe in community become more in numbers.

Where was the claim that racism was the full picture? There wasn't. It was directed at another posters comments about being "kind of racist." So it wasn't even a direct accusation.

So, that's why I brought up the huffy comment. It's like a trigger with some folks.

"Racist"

"Grrrrr! Don't say that! Blacks can be racist too!"

;)

Dude, is it really that hard to say that it exists?

As you can well see, some folks also don't see any police brutality. They just see people who deserve to be killed, that's that, now when's dinner...?

But yeah, watch what happens the SECOND somebody says a comment or behavior is racist against people of color. It's like racism doesn't exist anymore at any level and at any capacity.

I don't buy it.

Not the fans of what the cops did, but I do think many conservatives--too many, actually--support this kind of thing or at least don't speak out against it nearly as much as they should. The fact that a war criminal like Dick Cheney hasn't been expelled from the GOP speaks volumes about what kinds of things conservative parties are willing to tolerate and accept.

You can't really discuss a broken system without touching on the factors that make it broken in the first place.

Now I know what you think of conservatives. But I see the same thing on the left. So if you think that blaming one side will address the problem, this will still allow for the rise of the police state.

Aye, but to say "It's those darned conservatives!" doesn't even begin to address fundamental & bi-partisan causes.

No Dirty you are wrong, and the biggest racists have always been obese government and the worst have been the socialists and communists.

Makes no sense...

The Mayor and his ilk killed this guy as much as the black police seargent and the cops involved following orders to arrest violators of the cig tax.

No...a police officer killed him with a choke-hold that was banned long before this Mayor took office. And why are you calling attention to the sergeant's skin color. What difference does that make.

By the way, after the obese government nationalizes the police, they will put a tax on protesting.

Paranoid Fox viewers....~sigh~

By the way, weren't you one of those who said put an ignore on me? Maybe not ....

Have a nice day.

Nope. I see no need to ban people. I like their ignorant views to be viewed by the masses...

By the way ... Fox news isn't bad, certainly the most popular... though I don't like Sheeple Smith. But pretty good, yes they have a theme too. Who started this problem?

Quazi-intellectuals and the phony "narrative news" of MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS. Not news, narrative news. Write that word down, narrative. That is why most watch Fox news today. Because one narrative demands a counter narrative. The 3 letter old dinosaurs of the phony liberal news have done this to themselves.
Balderdash. Overall, the regular news channels of ABC, NBC, and CBS still out poll the cable news stations, and Fox and CNN each have sometimes taken the lead from the other, although right now Fox is higher even though they took a hit after the 2012 election. See: How Americans get their news - American Press Institute

To each his own...but for the record...I don't get my news from those sources you cited.....

Ahem.....it's our leftish leader who is commander in chief of the organization which supplies military gear to cops. Only recently is he publicly (& hypocritically) questioning his own policy. The war on drugs has been a big part of the nascent police state, & with bi-partisan support....except from libertarians & some conservatives.

And some lefties....not all of us support these actions. In fact quite a few of us are against them.

I apologize if my comment seemed that way. I was just trying to understand why the poster felt the need to focus on the color of the sergeant. I didn't think the color of her skin had anything to do with the systemic issues that exist in police departments around the country. I personally don't feel it's an R vs. L issue and I think race plays a small part in how minorities are treated by law enforcement but again...it's small considering there are numerous situations of law enforcement using excessive for on people of all colors, nationality and age.

It was interesting to hear Michael Steele, the former RNC chairman, state on Morning Joe yesterday that the officer clearly was in the wrong and should have been indicted without hesitation. He added that there shouldn't be a liberal-conservative or Democrat-Republican argument on this but said he was afraid that there would be at least some that would undoubtedly do just that.

Bingo.

This isn't about race, it is about excessive force and every agrees Right or Left. The civil case will be won by his family, NYC will pay for this injustice. The police never would have approached to arrest this guy, it happened because they were given marching orders. But so typical, as soon as someone points this out they are called a racist ("sounds like racism") because actually they do not want to hear that because in fact that is the agenda to make it all about that. That is what Al Sharpton is all about, he is a professional race baiter and black lives don't matter to him (the lives of those killed in horrific numbers by fellow blacks), he only cares about the narration of racist cops and fomenting division, this wasn't about racist cops and the overseeing the excessive force, the sergeant in charge of it, was a female black police officer thus exposing this lie. It is about excess government, zeal for taxes and regulation that killed him, it is about criminalizing with arrest every violation of a tax collection.

Racism? Who - Fox?

Racism like calling Obama "The Magic Negro"? (LATimes).

I am just giving you future news before it happens, taxes to come from those whose God is Taxes. That's why they will crack your head if you get in the way of their cut in the taxes. In California long ago we had an open revolt on property taxes. Good people like the TEA Party types today (Taxed Enough Already). In the future, very near future actually, we will have Americans saying screw the government class and take to the street. The government class will want to tax that.

The days of the phony liberal news are coming to their demise. Nothing ever totally goes away. Even today we have Stalinists. Gawd, what dinosaurs. L.A. Times, CNN is sinking now... then as they flail we see odd changes here and there.

Hillary's girl Candy Crowley just called it quits from CNN. Might be bad news for Hillary. Candy was a big narrative news gal for Hillary going way back, even to when the L.A. Times in 2007 working the narrative for Hillary called her opponent at the time "The Magic Negro" in the campaign that Obama just wasn't "hood" enough to be considered legit black. Why is everything with the left race, and playing the race card, and when they pick their favorite in a primary they portray any black who isn't "their candidate" as not black enough or part of some con job?

LA Times < Link to LA Times 2007 Obama the Magic Negro (hit trick by Hillary operatives)

"This isn't about race". I'm just quoting Garner's sister.
