What exercises do you do? Tai Chi Chu'an? Chi Kung? Meditation? I Ching? Calligraphy? etc. Let's discuss 'em.

what you're doing already IS meditation. Kudos my friend!NordicBearskin said:I did Tai Chi for a while. I may get back into it one day, at least when I can do the warm up exercises without gasping for breath.
I don't know whether it counts as an exercise, but I'm working on simply allowing myself to be still and not worry about being or doing any one particular thing in one moment. I think it's very easy to get caught up in artificial and complicated flavours and build higher and higher towers in the sky, which is tiring and self-defeating as even the tallest tower must fall someday. Far better to go with the current the, swim up stream; I'm not a salmon. (At least I don't look like one... I hope )
I'm also beginning to look into meditation. I've even got me a tiny Zen shrine.
Yeh, what ChrisP said for sure! NB I would see this as the most natural & beautiful form of meditation, and its not easily accessible to most of us sophisticated modern things, so I'm glad you can do it. For instance, just to wander along the beach by yourself then sit quietly watching the waves, to take all that in and let your mind diffuse into soft focus, is something that most people just can't do without trying to force it. So little peace for all the brothers and sisters.NordicBearskin said:I don't know whether it counts as an exercise, but I'm working on simply allowing myself to be still and not worry about being or doing any one particular thing in one moment.
Gah! You saying that makes me want to not speak!ChrisP said:what he said... *decides to never speak again*

On average, sometimes I meditate for only 30 minutes. And sometimes I meditate for over 5 hours. Even though the former is more usual.Scarlett Wampus said:Beautiful paintings Master Vigil! And 3 hours meditation a day? That's an impressive practice.
It looks like Tai Chi and Chi Gong, mostly because it stems from my training in those arts. It is a combination of physical exercises to expand and enhance your core energy. You can read more about on my website. And I just finished my Pulsus Short Documentary which can be seen here...What's this Pulsus thing then eh?
Not just 3, but 8 energy spheres.Scarlett Wampus said:The short documentary is beyond the bandwidth I have right now, but I'll check it out tomorrow for sure. I read about Pulsus on the website though. Chi Kung with three energy spheres, interesting stuff
There are so many different schools of Chi Gong, I learnt the Mt. Longhu school, which supposedly is directly linked to the Wudang school. But I haven't done as much research as I should to give you a more in depth geneology. What happens alot is when chinese masters come to america, they try to "americanize" their Chi Gong, and it ends up being changed. Sometimes in a good way, but sometimes in a bad way. But I haven't come across a chi gong master I didn't like.My Chi Kung practice hasn't been very good for months. Someone told me that Fire Method Chi Kung (apparently most Chi Kung taught outside of China is Fire Method) wasn't suitable for me, even though this is what I'd been doing for years and years. This stumped me. I got hold of a few books on Water Method by B.K.Francis, but I haven't given them any serious attention yet. This is partly because I'm kinda addicted to a certain combination of exercise/diet/meditation that is definately Fire Method in approach. Incidentally, Water Method is meant to most resemble the early spirit of Taoism whereas Fire Method came about later.
Done and Done! Seriously, my Choong Jae Nim said I looked to sloppy to be a C.S.Kim Karate school owner. So I shaved my head (not bald) and shaved my beard (not completely).Nehustan said:Right first things first. Master Vigil...get a haircut and a shave!!!!! But seriously very cool video.
HAHAHAH, I so wanted to say that when the video came my way in August last year...Nehustan said:Right first things first. Master Vigil...get a haircut and a shave!!!!!
LOL yes im with you on this one.EnhancedSpirit said:I chase my kids. :woohoo:
Taoism is often associated with certain systems of exercise, but beyond Taoism I think any discipline of the body that integrates well with other spiritual and mental 'disciplines' that you might do is a great thing.dawny0826 said:I don't know much about exercise in connection to Taoism...
But I bellydance and I practice basic yoga.
I feel SO relaxed and spiritually aware and at peace after I do both.
Instead of using typical yogaesque mantras...I pray...I take that time to meditate on my spiritual needs.
