Satan, Satanism and Christianity

There are lots of Satanists in this forum. This is a great opportunity to discuss about what I really think about Satanism, LHP to be more precise.
well...what I am sure about is that LHP Satanists are mostly peaceful, educated and good people.
That's because they worship a positivist deity, which is for individualistic freedom, intellectual autonomy, spirit of criticism etc

but that deity is not Satan. I'm sorry, LHP people: you don't worship the real Satan, I mean the Satan described in the Bible

Satan is the negation of intelligence, progress and culture. Satan is the emblem of the most animalistic part of man. A part made of selfishness, greed, meaninglessness, rootlessness.

I would exercise caution in presuming to speak for what Satanists do or do not worship, considering the heterogeneity of the group. Doubly so for LHPers more broadly. In some cases, you are essentially correct. In others, you are very much incorrect.

True true true.

I tend to view Satan as the the rebel who put up a middle finger and refused to bow because God demanded it, I highly respect that. I also view him, like you said, as the animalistic side of mankind. I agree with the first two, I would never be in the position of life where I'm at now if I wasn't a little selfish and greedy.

Meaninglessness and rootlessness? That's purely your views. What you may find as meaningless and pointless, I find a meaning.

precisely. My ignorance on the subject tells me I should have been more prudent, before generalizing.
In fact I know that among Satanists, there are are many who do worship the real Satan

Relating lack of progress to selfishness is hilarious, considering it's what drove the foundation of civilization to the present moment.

It was my understanding that the satan of the bible was brilliant, like a star, refined, graceful, masterfull, prince of the angesl, favorite of and second only to god. This is a drastically different picture than the one you have painted. Can you please point to the scriptures from which you derive you say satan is described in the bible.

It's the vision of Satan we Catholics have.
Satan is a symbol. It symbolizes the devilish concept according to which man is nothing. That man is evil and is doomed to sin and do evil.
Mary refused this vision and crushed the snake with her foot, symbol of this devilish vision of man (that is in the Bible)-
Mary is the total opposite of Satan. Mary symbolizes the concept of divine humanity. That is, man can become divine

Very true. The character of Satan has never been nailed down to the satisfaction of all Satanists. Personally I find that fact appealing since it leaves it to the individual to determine what exactly Satan is and what he/she/it stands for.

For what it's worth there are Satanists who embrace a more traditionally "evil" deity (whether real or metaphorical) and who feel that Satanists in general have gotten soft.

Anyways, 'Satan' usually means HaSatan the entity Jesus rebuked, this was a ;spirit ' in the NT, but means adversary, could be used as a perjorative, s Peter was called 'Satan' as well. Seems to mean 'devil' unless regarding the main satan character mentioned later in scripture.

So...if I understand properly, that promised beach house is a non-starter?

.

Actually I don't think most people calling themselves 'satanists' are very theistic, they tend to be more atheistic, think LeVeyan Satanism, and there is a big difference between these groups obviously, at least imo.

The Deity they worship mostly is Egyptian, Set, and some other characters from mythology mixed in, Technically I wouldn't combine Set and 'Satan' at all. Oh well.

The Bible explains that Satan was not always evil. He was a beautiful angel in heaven with God. He chose to rebel against God and seek his own glory and worship. He also influenced other Angels in heaven to follow in his rebellion.

Jesus said of him that he was a manslayer when he began and did not stand fast in the truth, because the truth is not in him. This shows that Satan once was in the truth but chose to leave it. (John 8:44)

Revelation 12:9 reads: "So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him."

Satan will soon be thrown into the abyss: Revelation 20:1-3 states: "And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven with the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, the original serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for 1000 years. And he hurled him into the abyss and shut it and sealed it over him so that he would not mislead the nations anymore until the 1000 years are ended.

Satan is never described in the Bible as being a favorite of God. He is God's enemy. He will be destroyed after the thousand year reign of Jesus. Revelation chapter 20 explains this in detail.

I never understood that first part up there. I thought angels had no self will. Always thought they served God completely without question.

Angels do have freewill.
One clarification: Satan's fall is just a mythological tale to explain that Heavenly intelligences (angels) have chosen separation instead of unity.
Satan and the demons are just manifestation of the opposition to oneness.
Heaven is the Oneness with God.

Viker, if you identify with the vision of Satan portrayed in the Carducci's poem Hymn to Satan, that means you don't worship the Biblical Satan. I guess...I may be wrong.
