Self-hating Jew!

No, individuals who trash their own culture and tradition, who crap on their own people in favor of others-- those individuals are called self-hating. People who try to be even handed are called moderates or progressives. Big difference.

Jewish people who want to be Messianic are called self-hating and sometimes disowned.

Sure, but you ask a lot of apparently self-hating Jews and they'll say they don't actually hate themselves-- they think what they're doing is right.

I see what you're saying, and I can certainly see how to parse things that way. But it just seems to me that if we exempt from the category of "self-hating Jew" Jews who are anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist, and Holocaust deniers, but only because they think being that way exemplifies a "truer" Judaism in some fashion, we might end up eliminating almost everyone from the category....

That's true, but no one said self-haters are supposed to be common.

One example of a self-hating Jew would be that brother Nathanael guy.

You're new to this forum, and I welcome you.

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the rules. More specifically, rule 10.

I replied by PM to an earlier post but a Jew is someone who's mother was Jewish. Or do you have another, non Orthodox, definition of who is a Jew and if so maybe we should continue this in the "Who is a Jew" thread. Anything more here would continue a thread hijack. Or PM me
Again: This is not a Jewish DIR but a Judaism DIR. Follow the guidelines.

The thing is, you must identify as a Jew in your Religion label tag. It's only fair, nu? Something generic like 'Love' might apply to almost all religions, yet the idea with DIR is that a forum member can belong only one or in rare cases two DIRs.

You might have made this a question, instead of a statement, then it would be ok.

My reply would be no, they might be considered as not in keeping with Jewish law, in particular the requirement of absolute monotheism; but I have never heard the accusation of 'self-hating'.
