Israel uses a special dictionary to speak to Americans?!

Every one of the 112 pages in the booklet is marked "not for distribution or publication" and it is easy to see why. The Luntz report, officially entitled "The Israel project's 2009 Global Language Dictionary, was leaked almost immediately to Newsweek Online, but its true importance has seldom been appreciated. It should be required reading for everybody, especially journalists, interested in any aspect of Israeli policy because of its "dos and don'ts" for Israeli spokesmen.

These are highly illuminating about the gap between what Israeli officials and politicians really believe, and what they say, the latter shaped in minute detail by polling to determine what Americans want to hear.

Shock and awe, A government has a PR strategy.

This is not news, This is common sense and if you think your government doesn't have the exact same thing then you're not thinking objectively.

It is still worth checking how misleading that PR strategy is. At some point it becomes fraud, and at some point after that it is betrayal.

In domestic American politics, Frank Luntz never met a truth he couldn't subvert or pervert. Not a good sign that he's put this together for the Israelis.

Professional lying is professional lying even if it's both common today and widely approved of.

That would be true, If people actually cared about this because of it and it alone, Not because Israel is in the spotlight and people are looking for any dirt they can drudge up so they can join the Israel-hating fad.

It is not a fad, at least if we can believe anyone who actually lives there. Caring about that and attempting to explain or deal with it does indeed manifest as fads.

I must attempt to learn why Israel's public image is so fiercely protected by so many people sometime.

I could care less about their image, What I care about is ignorance, hypocrisy and pretty blatant anti-Israel agenda's.

I think it's nothing more than what every other nation/state/public entity does: Attempt to portray itself in a positive light no matter what.

Just because everyone does it, doesn't mean everyone is right. I know you can't set the clock back to before the day nations didn't exercise lying as a science, but I still think it's reprehensible that they do. And Frank Luntz is one of the worse PR people on the planet.

Wow what a travesty. The government spokespeople are cautioned what to say and what not to say.

It's a good thing we're exposing at least some of these deceptive measures.. It's too bad it may not prove efficient at reversing, or even stopping, the deception employed.

I hope this isn't the start of a new disturbing trend of deceipt and rhetoric in diplomacy. I can only imagine what would happen in the world if nations ever started being anything other than completely straightforward with each other.

Nope. This traces back to the work of Edward Bernays and others in developing the field of public relations. Bernays ideas were most notoriously applied during the 20th Century by the Nazis to convince people of, among other things, that Jews were subhuman. The ancient lies of diplomats to one another are nothing in comparison to what public relations has become. It's like comparing model Ts with modern cars.

You know better than some what is abominable.. Exodus 20:16, Exodus 23:7, Leviticus 19:11, Psalm 5:6.
