Scariest Horror Movies

Since people have become so desensitized to horror flicks its hard to find a movie that can actually scare you. I remember being a kid and my mom wouldn't let me watch scary movies only because they gave her nightmares.
The first horror flick I saw that actually kinda freaked me out was The Haunting and after that was The Ring.
Since then I've seen almost every scary movie I could fathom aside from Unborn and a few newer ones like Sinister, House at the End of the Street... not sure if I am missing any good ones...

So what are some of your favorite horror flicks?
I thought Insidious was one of the best since Poltergeist. Just my opinion.
Poltergeist scared me as a kid at least...

So what scary movie had you at the edge of your seat?

Wonder Woman
I don't know if I haven't really watched that many, or just not many are coming to mind, or not that many really scare me. I know that the classic "slice-em dice-em" movies have never done anything for me. I do prefer the more psychological thriller types of movies. The only ones that comes to mind that I think actually had me cringe or jump at any time would have to be "The Cell" and "The Grudge". Freaky things they were.

Thinking about it, I have actually seen quite a few flicks, I'd just have to think over which ones really scared me as it's been a while since I've seen a lot of them. Though I will say one thing...

The upside down crab walk down the stairs in The Exorcist has got to be the single most creepy thing in all of scary movie history. Just...*full body shudder*.

"The Shining" scared me as a kid. I was too young to understand what it was about, but that lady in the tub scene scarred me for life. "The Evil Dead" scared me too as a kid, but I have watched too many horror movies since then and they aren't scary anymore. "The Grude" sort of scared me, but not the movie itself. My heater made the same hissing sound as the woman ghost and scared the hell out of me, I was in bed and half asleep though so I wouldn't count it as a film that scared me.

Horror is my favourite movie genre.

1. Mirrors 1&2 - Mirrors 1 is better though.
2. The Langoliers - Stephen King.
3. Insidious.
4. The Grudge (Ju-On) - Not the one starring Buffy.
5. The Exorcist (1973).
6. Silence of the Lambs.
7. Carrie (1976).
8. Stir of Echoes.
9. Final Destination (all 6 of them).
10. The Serpent And The Rainbow - Wes Craven.

There we go, my 'top 10' in no particular order.

Alien - The chest burster critters are stomach churning.
Silence Of The Lambs - Dr Lecter & the "It puts the lotion on it's skin...." guy.
Nightmare On Elm Street - Good ole Freddy Krueger!

Oh...my daughter just said Hostel parts 1 & 2, she said Hostel 3 sucked and she also liked the SAW series...but then again, I draw the line where gore flicks =/= horror flicks. lol

I'm with you on The Haunting (provided you're referring to the original 1963 version). It was terrifying.

I'm generally impervious to horror films but the bed scene from the original Thai version of Shutter got me good :D

Pet Sematary (Zelda)

Communion aka Alice Sweet Alice (The Landlord)

Return of the Living Dead (when I was a kid, the Tarman scared the crap out of me)

Friday the 13th Part 2 (the cat jumping in the window, more of a startle)

Maniac Cop (the premise in general was quite scary)

The Shining (Jack Nicholson, enough said)

The Descent (the premise)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 (duking it out with Leatherface in a pond)

I'll think of more later...

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

Yea. I think Asians are masters at horror. The focus is more on atmosphere and not as much on shock value.

Ironically however....

I think one of the more disturbing films was the Human Centipede.

Paranormal Activity (1st one)
Mama
The Grudge

I know there are more - this is one of my favorite genres. I don't like bloody/slasher movies though. That's not scary, just gross. I'll think of more.
