I wonder if a giant squid that maxes out at about 1/4 tonne could pull a shark that weighs over 1 tonne down that quickly.

Definitely possible. They have the size and range to pull it off.
And are known to dine on sharks much bigger than a great white.

I think that's a likely candidate.
It's possible the shark got struck by lightning or something and nose dived...after all, they sink if they don't swim constantly. Fin sticking out of the water and then *BLAM!* a bolt from the blue.

But they are usually found in the northern parts of Australia.
And i get the impression that this shark was found in the southern parts.
I want to move to Australia, Perth to be exact, but even the Black Swans are nasty!

I hate to say it but NSW is a good choice.
The weather is great. None of the tropical ******** of northern QLD and none of the bitter cold of VIC. Lot's of nice smallish cities along the coast.
Don't go to Sydney, it's a hole.
