Jesus:Real or myth?

I'm sorry but you cannot. Both of these gentlemen are very well trained in the classics and NT studies. Bart Ehrman aint the only player in town when it comes to this stuff.

I don't understand. You're agreeing with me that no one has made the claim about 'there could be no germ for the Jesus character'?

Would you mind just speaking clearly about whatever you believe?

I love smug people who are so ignorant of the topics that they speak of. It really brings a smile to my face.

I'm glad that Bart Ehrman makes you happy, I guess. I've never read him myself.

Thanks for the above.....
Right or wrong..... I don't take a lot of notice of Q.

I still see G-Mark, fiddling, evangelical editing and all, as the closest report to HJ. I have never argued that there was certainty, only a strong probability..... but that is enough for me to believe that Jesus was a real person, who was baptised, took up a mission, failed, and was arreste.... after that the possibilities increase, probabilities reduce.
I've always been somewhat fond of Goodacre and Farrer, but it would be strange for a Jerusalem sect to have no body of sayings from its leader.

You know for a guy who supposedly never existed, a mere literary invention....... he sure has gotten a lot of mileage, and it keeps on going. Talk about the energizer bunny of meme's aye?;)

But Mickey Mouse has his own theme park.

Anyway, zombies and vampires get a bunch of mileage, too. I don't think that's evidence that they are more real than myth.

I had no idea. What sort of rides does it have? (I can't help imagining kids being scourged as they drag a cross through the Via Dolorosa.)

"The Holy Land Experience (HLE) is a Christian theme park in Orlando, Florida and registered non-profit corporation. HLE conducts weekly church services and bible studies for the general public. HLE’s theme park recreates the architecture and themes of the ancient city of Jerusalem in 1st century Israel. ...The facility features live presentations and reenactments of the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and the depiction of the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ to heaven. " wiki

Who'd a thunk such a thing.

God gets a lot of mileage too, and He was invisible. Like Father like Son? ;)

As per my view, Jesus was a complete myth. Because once there was only one religion - Hinduism based on Veda which is the oldest religion. But people who were born from kali purusha were against veda. They created their own religion to fulfill their own greedy needs and in this way many religions took the birth in the west. I think jesus is one of those imaginative characters from the religion made by some people who wrote bible.

Wrong. The oldest forms of human religion according to anthropology would be a primal animism as practiced by tribal peoples.

This is limited only to the west. Our Vaidik scriptures too support that those western religions are practiced by Tribal peoples. But before there was Vaidik dharma which is being followed from the creation of the earth itself. Veda is the oldest scripture/book of this earth and ancient hindus weren't tribesmen. Archeological studies in India have proved that ancient hindus were highly advanced by both materially and by spiritually.

I'm not interested in your religious propaganda. Humans have been in India for about 70,000 years. The Vedic period only started in about 1750 BCE, when Indo-Aryan culture became prominent. Before that was the Indus Valley Civilization and before that, it was the Stone Age. Vedic religion, like pretty much all other human religions, would've developed out of first animism, and then polytheism. That is how religions develop.

Oh, racist theories, eh? What irony (I've seen your posts in the Hinduism DIR so I know just how ironic that is). Not my fault reality doesn't match up to your religious and political ideologies. Take it up with a historian.
