I have a couple of things that I've said and did that still really bother me. They make me wince and feel extreme embarrassment.
More recently, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream... and I blew it. I got so close and then just couldn't seal the deal. It's really gnawing at me. Plus, the failure is going to be on national television, so I'm stressing about that too.

I don't believe we are entitled to any type of reward, salvation, permanent peace, bliss, or happiness. We get what we get. We are simply subjects to whatever this universe decides to dish out. Not that it's necessarily good or bad...it is whatever you make of it.

The greatest obstacle for me is fear. In fact its the only obstacle. All the rest that serve as obstacles have their origins in fear. It underlies everything that blocks us from Peace and Self Knowledge. It finds its face in many forms. It's not the form it takes that we fear, it takes forms because we simply fear in general. The opposite of Love is not hate, but fear, as fear is the root of hate. We fear loss of control, and every step toward enlightenment, is a greater loss of what we assume to be the source of our self-sense. We fear dissolving into non-being. And that general fear creates avoidance; and avoidance of confronting that fear in us and moving through that door. So every door we go through, every fear we overcome, we find another door to go through, and another, until there is nothing left and we are Free.

I said love and fear are opposite. We can't love when we fear, and we don't fear when we love. If we experience anxieties over those we are attached to, then are we really loving them, or simply attached to our feelings and fear loosing them because we fear how it will make us feel?
As the saying goes, "Perfected love casts out all fear". Perfect love does not cling, but simply loves in the moment. It allows the impermanence of life, like letting a bird land in your hand and fly off as it will, rather then attempting to hold and possess it, thereby altering its nature. To fear losing a loved one is not love, but fear.
