What is Sanatan Dharma

Friend Ravi,

Thank you for your responding.

However on the topic of Mata Amritanandmayi recently a book has been published by her disciple for 20 years Ms Gail Tredwell whose pdf format titled HOLY HELL is available online.
One must read the other side of Mata Amritanandamayi or the 'Hugging Saint'.
Similar are stories of many who are addressed as saints in India.

If enlightened masters do not practise what they preach then surely others around too are affected for obvious reasons.

Let us grow in our own understanding to understand that SANATAN is eternal and dharma is law and combined these two words it means "eternal laws' and what is eternal even before any humans evolved or they became enlightened or before they could reveal what that law is in some format for others to follow.

A saying by the great Hindu saint and scholar, Sri Aurobindo on the Sanatana Dharma....

This Sanatana Dharma has many scriptures: The Veda, the Vedanta, the Gita, the Upanishads, the Darshanas, the Puranas, the Tantras, nor could it reject the Bible or the Koran, but its real, the most authoritative scripture is in the heart in which the Eternal has his dwelling.

Friend crossfire,

Perspective is only if you are in the mind. Since everyone has a mind, they are all different in some respect.
However, mind transcended; its all ONE MIND!

Abandoning objectivity is not transcendence. It is going to the other duality of idealism in the objectivism/idealism duality. You might as well lobotomize yourself.

"In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is."

Krishna himself was target of a vilification campaign by the likes of Shishupala , Jarasandha,Rukma and others. Does that mean that he was truly villainous as described by them !

Buddha was vilified by his own cousin Devadatta.

Similarly there are vilification campaigns against enlightened masters by vested interests. There is no need to take all of them into account.

Mata Amritanandamayi has been teaching Hinduism for many years now with millions of disciples. She had also addressed Sanatana Dharma in the parliament of religions in 1993.

The entire universe is condensed in the body and the entire body in the Heart. Thus the Heart is the nucleus of the whole universe. This world is not other than the mind, the mind is not other than the Heart; that is the whole truth.

In the centre of the cavity of the Heart the sole Brahman shines by itself as the Atman (Self) in the feeling of `I-I'. Reach the Heart by diving within yourself, either with control of breath, or with thought concentrated on the quest of the Self. You will thus get fixed in the Self.

To Rama who questioned Vasishta: `Which is that big mirror in which all these are mere reflections? What is the heart of all souls or creatures in this universe?' Vasishta replied: `All creatures in this universe have two kinds of hearts — one to be taken note of and the other ignored. Hear their respective traits: The one to be ignored is the physical organ called the heart which is situated in the chest as a part of the perishable body. The one to be taken note of is the Heart which is of the nature of consciousness. It is both inside and outside (us) and has neither an inside nor an outside.'

Friend Ravi,

You misunderstand.
Have mentioned earlier too am not denying anything, rather am open to both good and bad and find the balance to transcend that very mind that perceives good or bad.

I do not think so. Let us be circumspect while addressing the Hindu masters and saints.

Tapas is required for this i.e acceptance of the pairs of opposites with equanimity of mind.

Friend Ravi,

Yes, but to attain that state of oneness or constant self-awareness/mindfulness, tapas or equanimity of mind is needed.

Could be, never saw / felt mind to have any qualities as such!:D:D

Wow, I only heard an enlightened master make that remark. ;)

Are you quite sure, you are enlightened and have achieved total cessation of mind, honestly speaking.

Sorry, am no claimant to such achievement; just a human walking without doing anything as such!
Also, never had any such good fortune to come across any enlightened masters or heard them speak much except once when had met Chinmayananda to ask him 'what is God'? to which he replied more or less like his master Swami Sivananda in his book 'The mind and its control'

No, the mind is still around, raising its hood every so often BUT yes do enjoy this game with my mind.:D:D

Friend Zenzero, :) ( proud to say so )

Thank you for the clarification, and appreciate your self-honesty which is a sign of nobility. With such an attitude, I am sure you will reach the goal swiftly.

Friend Ravi,

Thank you for your kind words.
However being GOALLESS itself is the goal, if any.
Besides have heard that 'A beginning is an end in itself" !

Thank you for your remarks. :namaste

To bring more clarity, I would say, being desireless is the goal.

No need to have a desire, though you can have a goal or objective , which is essential for understanding your duty at each moment , either through reasoning or intuition, and executing it.

In the dual state, we use reasoning to determine our duties,or a mixture of reasoning and intuition as per spiritual advancement.

In the purely non-dual state or no-mind, one is guided by intuition. Janaka and Krishna, who were in the non-dual state, used intuition in skilful execution of actions.

That is a practical dilemma that often must be accepted instead of overcome, IMO.

Often enough wanting to be non-dual simply does not in and of itself offers a true direction.

Buddha described intuition as thus:

painful practice with slow intuition:
These five faculties of his — the faculty of conviction, the faculty of persistence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, the faculty of discernment — appear weakly. Because of their weakness, he attains only slowly the immediacy [1] that leads to the ending of the effluents. This is called painful practice with slow intuition.
This sutta also describes painful (With the presence of the three poisons) practice with quick intuition, pleasant practice (without the presence of the three poisons) with slow intuition, and pleasant practice with quick intuition:
Vitthara Sutta: (Modes of Practice) in Detail
