Foreword

What The LOrd Has Shown Me in the book of revelation

By Byron Leslie Kerns

In mid-1999 the Holy Spirit worked powerfully with me and upon me giving me new understanding in the Book of Revelation.

The experience was very profound and deep. For two days in a row the Spirit led me to study and receive wisdom into certain keys and truths to help unlock God’s wisdom that He has placed there for us. The experience was so strong that the study sessions would last all day with no need to break for meals. I was not really conscious of time. I was not hungry, nor did my blood sugar get low, even though there was no noon meal. It was an exhilarating precious adventure with the Lord in His Word. I thrill again even as I think of how and what He imparted to me. I hope you, dear reader, as you consider this treatise, will sense the excitement and adventure of working with the Lord into His Word.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Acknowledgments
The author wishes to thank and acknowledge those whose help has made this commentary possible.
I want to thank my spiritual father Buford E. Pickett, July 30, 1910-March 28, 2003, who taught and encouraged me in the study of Bible prophecy for thirty years. For his family this is a legacy to his memory. I look forward to seeing him soon “in the air.”
To Pastor Don and Betty Coyne, The Lord’s House church, Aurora, Missouri: Thank you Sister Betty for typing and arranging four hundred pages of manuscript. Thank you, Pastor Don, for allowing this truth to be taught in your church.
Thanks to my wife and helpmate Maggie for encouraging me in this work and being a prophetic witness. Thank you for allowing your spiritual gifts to “prove all things in the mouth of two or three witnesses.”
Most of all, thank you King Jesus for saving my soul, and forgiving my many sins. Thank you for renewing my physical life in May 2001, by healing my heart. Thank you for your Holy Spirit teaching me, 1 John 2:27.

Introduction
Basic Keys to understanding the book of Revelation
Let us get into the keys that helped me understand the Book of Revelation in a new, exciting way. It also helped answer questions that had nagged at me for years about certain passages. Questions such as: “Why are certain events repeated in the Book in slightly different ways?” “Why are certain passages found within a place that seems out of context for that verse?”
“What is the real meaning of the man upon the land and sea mentioned in Revelation, chapter ten?” “What is the book he has in his hand?” “What is the real order of events for sure?” “What about the Rapture?” When does is occur?” The questions we could list, no doubt, are innumerable. By using the keys that God has provided, and that have always been there, we will find the answers to our questions.

I believe we are very close to the happening of some of the first end-time events. Jeremiah 23:20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
Indeed, if you have read the Commentary God gave me, “What The Lord Has Shown Me In The Book of Daniel”, you know that we are living in the revived fourth beast Roman Empire now! The “ten horns” are ruling now from hidden thrones. The world has already been divided into ten economic trading zones which they rule. In fact, it will be greatly beneficial to your understanding of Revelation if you read the Commentary on Daniel first. Daniel, one of God’s greatest prophets, was given the road map to all of the world’s future through prophecy. Many symbols and events interpreted in Daniel are keys to unlocking the symbolism and prophecy of Revelation. We will be referring to many passages in Daniel as we study Revelation, because they help our understanding. Also, Daniel and Revelation are inseparably linked together in prophecies and persons in both Books.

Let us now look at the basic keys God has given to help mankind understand. As we explain the keys, I believe you will see why I believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible including Revelation. It is because the keys show that is the way it is written and intended to be understood!

Key 1:

Revelation is divided into four parts. The parts are identified by the viewpoint from which the events are seen and explained. The events and prophecies are told from the viewpoint of:
1. The Church Age (Revelation 1:1-3:22).
2. The [raptured] Saints and Elders (Revelation 4:1-11:19).
3. God’s Heavenly Viewpoint (Revelation 12:1-20:15).
4. The Post-Millennial viewpoint (Revelation 21:1-22:21).

This is the same method used to teach us about Jesus Christ in the gospel accounts. There are four gospels, from the viewpoints of four different writers, Matthew; Mark; Luke; and John. The disciple John is also the writer of the Book of Revelation. Just as we have four gospel accounts about some events; we have the same method used in the writing and prophecy of Revelation. This is why some events are repeated and told again in slightly different ways. The difference is the viewpoint from which it is being told or prophesied. Do not mistake that there is more than one author. All the Book is inspired by the Holy Spirit and the authority of Jesus Christ as told to the disciple writer, John (Revelation 19:10 …the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.). It is simply told from four viewpoints to help us understand. When we learn to see the Book in this way, much of the mystery is cleared up. God is able to give more detail about certain events using this method. Remember, these events are being prophesied 2000 years in advance to a man with a limited language to use. There is no words for tank, airplane, atomic bomb, or ICBM missiles in the first century.

Symbolism must be used that cannot be changed through history. The account must also correspond correctly to the Book of Daniel and other prophetic books and symbols used in the Bible. Revelation is a “summing up” and culmination of the prophecies of God that relate to the end time. They start at the beginning of the churches established in the first century continuing to the new heavens and the new earth in the post-millennial age.

We must add there is also a mid-point, a division exactly in the middle of the Book of Revelation. The mid-point is found in chapter eleven. This is the middle chapter of the twenty-two chapters of Revelation, and not surprisingly, it describes events and people found at the mid-point of the seven year tribulation. It is equivalent in method to the division of the Bible into the Old and New Testaments. Use the Bible to interpret the Bible; this is always the best and most accurate method.

Key 2:

The Book is in logical, sequential, and chronological order of events.

Men have argued about this for years. There has been much confusion created by the multiple theories of interpretation for Revelation. Much confusion is traced to what particular denomination or branch of religion you feel you belong to. I do not “belong to” a church building, a denomination, or a man. I belong to Jesus Christ only, because He bought me back from sin; He paid for me with His Blood. Therefore He alone has my allegiance; not some man-made doctrine that divides the body of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 3:11, 21, 23).
Denominations divide the body of Christ in carnality. There is only one church, Jesus Christ, His Word in the Bible, and His commandments contained there. The first and second greatest commandments that Jesus Christ gave, summed up all the law and the prophets (see Matthew 22:37-40). Practice these and you shall live. You will live rewarded in this life, as well as in the next.

The Chronological Order in Revelation:
The argument against chronological order is also cleared up if you see the four viewpoints from which it is told. There are events repeated that are simply told in greater or lesser detail.

Possibly, one of the greatest controversies about the Book of Revelation that involves the Second Key is the timing of the Rapture. Well-meaning Christian people have become bitterly divided over this issue. Some avoid discussing it at all, sad to say, as it evokes strong emotions and deeply held beliefs. These can explode into division between brothers and sisters. What we should ask ourselves is, “What truthfully does the Bible say on this matter?” To get a truthful answer, we must be willing to look at all the Scriptures on this subject; not just use the ones that seem to support our particular belief or denominational doctrine.
