Maize said:Either "God" can't or won't relieve human suffering, therefore it is up to humankind to do it ourselves. We must each take the responsibilty for making the world a better place and stop waiting for some invisible deity to do it for us.

retrorich said:Right. The ultimate cop-out. He screwed up, so we suffer as a result.
standing_alone said:Okay, that makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification.
So is it only action that determines perfection or thought as well? Because the church I was brought up in taught that if you thought about committing a sin, it was just as bad and sinful as actually acting out the sin. And can anyone really be perfect, since we all do bad as well as good? Or does God just accept an individual on the basis of the severity of their imperfection? Sorry for asking so many questions, this is just a very interesting view on the matter that I rarely encounter.

This is what I meant Maize. Be proactive but also don't think yourself as a god that can do all and close out God completely. (not saying you do this. Just clarifying.)
The only way to make an end to human suffering is to destroy every religion. Because every religion thinks they are better then the other ones.
UUs don't think our religion is any better than other religions, it's just what works for us. Nor have we ever killed or oppressed anyone in the name of our religion. Stop generalizing all religions as the same.SCIRLIN said:The only way to make an end to human suffering is to destroy every religion. Every person on this Earth does, or has the potential to do, evil acts regardless of religion or belief. Even you.All followers of that God do evil acts.
Look what the jews have done in palestina. Killing people because they think they are better then non-jews.
Thanks for the comic relief. :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:SCIRLIN said:if you dont believe in God you will burn in hell with satan!

I never said to close out God completely, but I don't see God fixing the humanitarian issues of today, I see people doing it. When my sink clogs up, I don't sit back and pray to God to fix it, I get out the tools and do it myself. I don't think myself a god, just a human doing the best I know how to make this world a better place and I firmly believed that if everyone did the same, we'd have the answers to all the humanitarian issues and would have "heaven on earth".
retrorich said:You may think that is the real question; however, it is NOT the question posed in the topic of this thread.
I believe it can and will happen, and it will be up to us mere humans to make it happen. This is my faith.Victor said:I said I wasn't talking about you.
I won't hold my breath for heaven on earth. I don't believe it can ever happen.
standing_alone said:But isn't God the one who created Satan, who then deceived humankind? If so, by creating Satan, didn't God create suffering?
uquote] satan is a name that was given , because of being a resister or opposer of God, so he wasnt created that way ,he made himself satan . the same way that humans can be of the same attitude as satan
First, keep in mind that I am an atheist, so I discuss God from a strictly hypothetical viewpoint.dawny0826 said:Explain to me how GOD is "screwing" up.
I don't see God "screwing" anything up. I see man "screwing" up time and time again.
Blaming God for our actions, in my opinion, is the ultimate cop-out.
