Is This Forum For The "Other" Religions?

There is so little activity on this forum from the "big three" (Christian, Muslim, Hindu) that they are almost never heard from, except for a very few diehards, probably trying to recruit for their own church. Does anyone know why? Just asking.

I think it's just the nature of a forum not dedicated to a certain religion. People on a religious forum will probably have more interest than the average person out in the world, be exposed to more information from books, web, discussion on less popular traditions different than their culture's dominant religion. More freely express their secular self.

Some smaller, fringe, upstart, etc. groups the members only know each other online so their presence will seem more than it is out in the big world.

You mean that you believe that followers of the "big three" are closed-minded?

I know why: because you're under the strange impression these groups are "almost never heard from" on the forums in spite of the fact that they are pretty regularly heard from.

No, I would say that if I wanted to have said that.

Most are culturally religious by a large degree. Their knowledge of their own traditions, others, secular arguments, etc. is less than those truly interested in religion.

Those who have less interest are not likely to be other than their cultural tradition or quietly secular. Those with more interest can be any and everything. Christians, Muslims, and Hindus are not more close minded - just most people are relatively ignorant on religion in general.

You know, I was thinking much the same thing, even wondering if I misread the OP. Maybe he meant General Religious Debates specifically, but even then...

You mean they are in disguise?

No. I mean that you have a very, very strange idea of what "almost never heard from" means. The Hinduism DIR alone is probably the most active DIR on the entire forum. And I regularly see both Christians and Muslims weighing in on topics in the debates area.

Are these groups represented the same way they are in the global population? Of course not, and we shouldn't expect them to given internet demographics are simply not the same as global demographics.

Look in the big three sections at the very small number of posts there as compared to the general religious forums. Very few and far between.

Well let's see: out of the 16 currently most active threads in this forum---let's say those with over 100 posts---posted in within the last month:

1 was started by a Calvinist Christian: -- Why does my God allow children to die? Is he evil?

4 by Muslims: the right religion

---Who taught Christianity to Paul?

2 by an unspecified Christian:

----Jehovah

That's 12 out of 16. All these threads have a good mix when it comes to the participation of member's of what the OP calls "The big 3".

So this:

Just isn't true. :)

But don't let that little detail slow you down Gilligan.
