Eternal life does not come from reading the Bible

Eternal life does not come from reading your bible.

John 5:39-40 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. "But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

Many people attend church and even read their Bibles but this does not bring eternal life to the person. Reading the Bible and attending church will make one wise for salavtion.

2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Eternal life is a work that Jesus alone brings into a person's life through the faith which is in Christ, in other words, the faith that Jesus possessed.

Faith is, that which we believe. Faith is something that we possess, not something we do. If I ask you what you believe you will begin to express your faith. The things we believe is our faith.

The faith that saves us is the faith that Jesus possessed. When we're born from above, in other words, when the Spirit of Christ takes up residency within our being He does this in order that He may give us understanding of the Scriptures and direct our daily lives. He does this by giving us His faith in things pertaining to the righteousness of His Father.

Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.

We don't read the law for ourselves and interpret it the way we want, but rather, Jesus interprets the law daily in our lives in the choices and decisions we make. When we believe Jesus we make Jesus' faith our faith and live in obedience to it.

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The Ten Commandments on stone don't cover the minute details of life, they just give us a broad understanding of how far we have fallen. It's in the details of life that Jesus will apply the spirit of the law.

The faith that's in Jesus is the faith we live by, in other words, the faith that Jesus possessed is the righteous knowledge of the Father, which the just must live by.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

The faith that Jesus possessed is the righeousness of His Father. When Jesus shares His faith with others He is revealing the righteousness of His Father to that person. When those how have the faith of Jesus share it with others the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith.

Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference.

The indwelling Spirit of Christ will convict and teach us the righteousness of the Father in our daily walk according to the spirit of the law. If we hear His voice and obey His words (His faith) from the heart for daily living He is giving us a life that is eternal life.

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Many people read the bible and attend church but they don't have the indwelling Spirit of Christ or they may be rejecting His impressions and convictions for daily living.

The Spirit of the new covenant is the Spirit of Christ. The purpose for Jesus' life, death and resurrection was to become that life giving Spirit of the new covenant that would indwell the new covenant believer. This is done to personally cleans and direct with words of righteousnes in the daily lives of God's people.

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being.'' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

When the Father sends the Spirit of His Son into our hearts we cry 'Abba Father' as He fills our hearts with love and power to live as Sons and daughters of God through the ministry of Christ.

Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!''

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

2 Corinthians 3:12-18 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. But their minds were hardened. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

No matter how bad things may look in life or even how good things may look we don't live our lives according to what we see, we live by faith, the things we know and believe which come from the faith of Jesus and the promises of God. This is what is meant when we are called to walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh, letting the Spirit direct no matter what the outward circumstances say.

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Many blessings,
John

Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld." (Hebrews 11:1) Yes, faith is the confident expectation, based on assurances, that the things we hope for will come true. It involves an expectation so strong that it affects the focus of our life. That kind of faith enabled Enoch to walk with God even though the world around him did not.

True faith is based on accurate knowledge.

whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth 1 timothy 2;4

Hi May,

A lot of people make the mistake in believing that the saving faith that is spoken of in the Bible is referring to a feelling such as, expectation. But it's much more than that. In order to understand this faith that the Bible speaks of that saves us we have to use the Bible to interpret the word, faith.

The problem we have which makes us a sinner is that we don't have God's thoughts nor do we have His ways.

Isaiah 55:7-9 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,'' says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

When we see verses such as 2 Corinthians 10:5 it's not speaking of knowledge about God but rather His knowledge.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Many people have knowledge about God but this is not the faith that saves. The faith that saves is referring to God's knowledge or His thoughts.

Faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of God. What are we getting from God's word. We're getting knowledge and we're getting understanding. This knowledge is seen in the word, faith.

Jesus possessed God's knowledge and He gives it freely to all who seek Him for it. This faith of Jesus is His knowledge. When He gives us this faith and we obey it we are justified in His sight.

Isaiah 53:11 He shall see the travail of His soul, and be satisfied. by His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities.

By His knowledge He shall justify many. This is not knowledge about Him but rather His knowledge, the knowledge He possessed.

The knowledge of Jesus and the faith of Jesus are one in the same.

We have been taught that saving faith means to believe. But according to the Bible saving faith is not something we do, such as believing, but rather something that we possess. The act of believing is how we take for ourselves the faith that Jesus possessed. In Galatians 2:16 we have a good picture of how it all works.

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

What the above verses are saying is that when we believe the words of Jesus we are making Jesus faith our faith. In doing so we can be justifed by the faith of Jesus. In other words, Jesus teaches us by sharing His faith which is the righeousness of God, we believe what Jesus is saying and in doing so we make Jesus' faith our faith.

Lets put it this way, The act of believing are the hands that grab faith. But it doesn't stop here. We now have to be obedient to that faith, to those things which we have believed that Jesus is saying.

Romans 16:26 But now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith.

So faith according to the Scriptures is something we possess which comes from Jesus. This faith is the thoughts of God or His righeousness.

Romans 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith.''

The righteousness of God is His thoughts. The just shall live by God's thoughts.

Many blessings,
John
