It varies. I've known people that have had to wait as much as 6 months (mostly waiting for visas). If your mission ends soon after the semester starts both ends can be very flexible. A lot of Elders go home a little early to get there for the beginning of the semester - and BYU would probably work with you as well. Your Bishop/Stake President could probably answer you better than I can though.mormonman said:How long is it between the time you send your papers to the time you head off to the MTC? Whem I go on my mission I hope I can come back in time for the fall semester at BYU.

I hear Boise needs some good missionaries.

My Brother-in-law is from Rexburg, Idaho and got called to the Salt Lake City South mission. He seemed to enjoy it though. I understand that they baptize quite a bit in the Utah missions, and you don't have to tract. Sounds wonderful!nutshell said:That's AWESOME!
There were two sisters in my MTC branch called to Provo. All they had to do was look out the window to see their mission.:bounce
The only thing worse than being from Rexburg and being called to serve in Salt Lake would be to be from Salt Lake and be called to serve in Rexburg! The Utah missions are among the most successful (from the standpoint of baptisms, which I recognize is not the measure of true success) in the world. That's probably because the potential converts have lived among the Mormons, worked with them, had them as neighbors, etc. They recognize that the people who they interact with them on an everyday basis are not the nutcases anti-Mormon websites paint them as.SoyLeche said:My Brother-in-law is from Rexburg, Idaho and got called to the Salt Lake City South mission. I took a break for a week, and it was good for me. I needed to break myself from the addiction, and attend to my wife and new baby. I'm actually hoping that I will be here less often than in the past, but I'll stop by every once in a while.Squirt said:The only thing worse than being from Rexburg and being called to serve in Salt Lake would be to be from Salt Lake and be called to serve in Rexburg! By the way, you're not going to bail on us, too, are you? I sure hope not!
