Why doesn't the laws of the US reflect the "Nation of Christians" it claims to be?

Matthew 25:41-46
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

There have been an increasing trend to make laws that criminalize being homeless or feeding the homeless in many cities across the US. A nation, where 83% of its citizens claim to be Christains, is showing signs of being more Anti-Christ then Christ-like. The scripture provided above is a parable told by Jesus that describes how to treat the poor. I always thought, while growing up, being Christian was to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, which the religion is named after. There are Christians that will literally do physical harm to you if you disagree with anything Jesus taught but yet the laws of the land reflect otherwise. But I guess the other 17% of people are the ones making the laws in this country. Or is it just the normal hypocrisy of religion? What are your thoughts.

Back before the social programs of the 1960s the poor would work and work hard. Now all they want is a FREE hand out and their free Obama phone.
The problem with this nation is liberalism. A Government where 50% of its working class refuses to work and suck offs those who are struggling to make a life for themselves. I have no problem doing my best to feed and help the poor but when it becomes such a broken system as the US today the day will come our dollar will become worthless and we will not have the means to take care of ourselves. Then what will happen to all your human social problems

Such a broad brush you paint with.

I'm not so sure about getting things for free. But first let's talk about the "working" class. You said 50% of its working class refuse to work. In order to work, you must find a job. When there are no one hiring because they are more focused on their bottom line, what can you do? It's funny how in the last 30 years, the income for the working class really hasn't budged yet the top 2% had an increase of almost 300%. I agree the system is broken. It's fixed to keep the "working' class from reaching the "upper" class. That's why everything has risen in price over the years yet MINIMUM WAGE is what $7.50 or something like that. I would think someone would have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to LIVE. The housing fraud that LET banks make money off houses then take them back, knowing that the occupants weren't able to keep them. Oh no, the poor are "playing" the victim u might think. Oh, but that's not a "Christian" problem, right? People just want to put on the label of Christain on Sundays only but live their regular lives opposite to that of the title "Christain". I thought religion affected people's daily lives, not just Sunday. But this is the same religion that sided with slavery back in the day so what makes me think that this isn't same case now?

It's all just an illusion.

Truth can be a broad brush. Have you even been to a Communist country like East Germany before the wall, I have? How about North Korea where everyone is supposed to be equal… HOGWASH.
There the government has everything and the people have little.

Yes thank God the US it is the very rich and have so much but the vast majority of its citizen’s do far better than most of the citizens of earth. It’s not fair but it’s the best the world have and if we don’t watch it we will lose it all.

I am not one of Jesus disciples that is who that verse is addressing You sell all you have and stop point fingers at others. Go live in North Korea seeing you have it so bad here.

While some may claim that the United States is a "Christian Nation," it was never set up as such. Our government is secular, which is great. There is a separation of church and state, which is even better, when used properly. Christianity should not be used in order to run the government.

In addition, the interpretations of any section of "scripture" will be debated.

You live in utopia. Yes the system is corrupt. The whole world is corrupt and we have it really good compared to so many places. Go live in North Korea or Honduras and then you would really understand what poor is. So you believe it’s right millions Americans should suck off the working class because you are angry with the rich. In North Korea the Government is the rich and if you do not belong to a certain group you have nothing including food and the basics. Is that what you want?

Tell me of a people who have not sided with slavery at one time or another. Go to the Middle East and you see slavery. Go to Honduras if you want to see slavery where the people are so poor they have nothing, Go to North Korea seeing we are so evil.

Blacks did not enslave blacks in Africa?
Native Americans did not enslave other Native Americans; you name the people it happened. We stop slavery over a hundred years ago. Read your history.

You are the one with the half facts and the illusion. You been brain wash to think the whole world should be perfect but all liberalism does is distroy people lives.

Example:
Soviet Union
North Korea
Red China (which is become more capitalism ever day Communism didn’t work)
Greece And much of Europe are all going broke and so is California because of liberalism.

Why are not the working class working in the US. Look who the President is. Look who controls the Senate. Look back in history and you will see Jimmy Carter did the same thing (same problems). It took years for Reagan to turn the economy around.

No I don't think it's being "brainwashed" to believe that the we are heading to destruction. We are the Cancer in God's body. I believe that instead of going along with the program that was written long before our time that places a few in control of the masses, that we should be focused on working together to accomplish our mission for God. I can tell you are a person that believes that since things have been like this for so long why change it? But I hate to tell you that if things continue, then your and my great grandchildren will suffer the most. With all the technology we have now, we still TOLERATE slavery of humans? And I bet you believe that we are different too. That's why you have this condensing attitude about how things can be. That perspective you have is why things haven't changed yet. In religion, people strive to go to their version of "heaven" but my belief is why can't we try to make the home we have now the same way or at least close to it.

I really think you should read your history. Everything going on in America today happened before and let me tell you, there is no Roman Empire today.

Wait, you're saying that there are people who claim to follow one set of rules, but then do things which are inconsistent with those rules?

I find this rather hard to believe.

Do you have a source for the claim that the working class is not working in the U.S.? I believe you put the statistic of 50% on it earlier (I apologize if I'm misquoting you). I would just be interested in where you got this information.

That is very true. But if one thinks this situation is wrong, one must point the finger at someone.

Since this is a political action, and it was spear-headed by a Democrat, in a city with a Democratic mayor -- in a city that is also the seat of the SC Democratic party (I looked but could not find the political affiliations of the City Council members) -- political actions that one disagrees with couldn't possibly be a negative reflection on the Democratic party -- but must be religiously based, rather than politically based -- or in this case presented that it should be religiously based/guided. (No other issue -- just this one.)

LOL I agree. But they worship the Bible claiming it to be the "truth" yet they can't live it in their own lives. Just a way to tell others what they should or shouldn't be doing to me.
From what I observe, the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways.
Each Xian still has his/her own personality. Interpretations will reflect this.
