What is true Love?

I like what the Bible says on love:

People are flawed, so I think this is the perfect type of love to aspire to in our relationships, be it a relationship with the love of your life or with your children and other family members, friends, etc.

What do you think dawny? Your link says "love is not easily angered". I believe what it was intended to say by the writer is "love does not cause anger (on purpose)" The word is provoked. What I believe it means is love does not tend to provoke, not be provoked.

The definition; stimulate or give rise to (a reaction or emotion, typically a strong or unwelcome one) in someone.

When God gave his son to die for you and me it was because God was stimulated to do so. Do you agree? To believe the writer of 1 Corinthians 13 wrote "love does not become provoked" is to deny God's strong feelings for righteousness. Doesn't it?

I believe in Love. Love as a husband, as a sister, as a mom, as a daughter, as everything. I do not understand some people that do not believe in Love.

and how would you define it?

I think we can understand what true love is by experiencing God's love for us.
As John 3:16 says; “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life." God shows love in caring for his creation, providing food and all that life requires and more. Since "God is Love" the more we know God, the better we can imitate the love he shows. (1 John 4:8, Ephesians 5:1) as to how love manifests itself, I think we can do no better than follow the description at 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

True love is something that physical humans can only aspire to approach. its not impossible to achieve it but we should never stop striving.

True love is based on truth, honesty, decency and above all having a personal relationship and receiving insights and revelations from the Holy Spirit is His love for us. Our love for Him is based on hungering and thirsting for truth about ourselves, to understand our sins is to free us from this sick world.

Are you sure you don't know more about theology than you know about love? Just askin'.

I like that. When you would go without to provide for the one you love, that is true love.

True love comes from giving not to expect anything in return.
True love cannot come from anyone who thinks they have it as long as there is one iota of resentment in their souls, mind or appears in thought ever.

True love is when your heart flutters, you feel dizzy, weak in the knees, and then you realize you've fallen in love with me. In which case, it's often quite difficult to distinguish between true love and nausea.

True Love, A myth created by story tellers.

Love is something worked at a feeling that grows over time with a person or thing a feeling built from understanding, compassion and trust.

Love has many different variations. I mean, love is love, to be sure. There is romantic type, there is the love you have for your children, family, close friends, there is brotherly love.

I think 'a strong feeling of affection' (Oxford Dictionary) is a good description.

However, I'd say that love is definitely something that has to be experienced.

I could also subscribe to those as good definitions and/or statements about it.

There are many kinds of love. Which one is more real, and therefore truer, than the rest? Many people have a preference for the kinds of loves that endure longest. But they often enough are not the most life-affirming, the most inspiring loves.

There is a problem with that word true that it only exists in principle. Still even true love isnt going to be a perfect scenario but it will endure if it was ever true to begin with.
