"Attack on this autistic child was the natural fruit of 'pro-choice' and evolutionary worldviews"

This is the headline on Answers in Genesis's website today (8-24-13)*
The crux of the issue, which I previously posted here on RF, concerns an anonymous letter . . .
Autistic-boy-sent-horrible-hate-letter-community-rallies-to-support-him.jpg
. . . sent to the mother of an autistic child, complaining about him and asking that the family move out of the neighborhood.

I highlighted the "anonymous" above because no one really knows who wrote it. However, as AiG would have it, it has to have been someone under the influence of the pro-choice propaganda or one caught in the clutches of the Darwin's Frankenstein monster, evolution. Why? Well actually for no better reason than that it serves to disparage those who are pro-choice and/or those who accept evolution as an alternative explanation to Biblical creationism.

And just how does pro-choice figure into the character of the writer of such a letter? As AiG explains in its only reference to it.
“Pro-choice” Planned Parenthood, promoting the murder of millions of inconvenient people, writes that “every child deserves to be wanted, loved and cared for”6—with the obvious corollary that the unwanted children should simply be killed."
and that's it!

Aside from completely miss-characterizing pro-choice, AiG figures this is exactly the kind of person who would write such a letter. That, or an evolutionist, which AiG explains with the following logic.
After all, evolutionary dogma teaches that human beings are nothing more than highly evolved animals.
and

After all, evolutionary psychologist Michael Price maintains that “evolutionary science provides the key to . . . moral progress.”9 Yet evolutionary thinking can provide only a relativistic man-made morality—the sort of morality that devalues imperfect babies and handicapped children.
The paragraph that contains the above has a bit more about evolution(ists) but nothing relevant to AiG's assertion.

So there we have it. Not one word explaining why the nincompoop who wrote the letter must have been the product of pro-choice thinking or under the influence of evolutionary concepts.

Of course, knowing AiG as many of us do, such groundless and disparaging pronouncements don't come as any surprise. Outright lying, misrepresentation, and a host of other indefensible techniques are all part of the creationist's tool box. So why do I bother to bring one more example of their duplicity? Because I think it's good to remind ourselves of how abysmally low the promoters of creationism can sink, and to enlighten the noobies here, and those who may have already bought into the creationist rhetoric, of the real character of creationism's leaders. Having to resort to ad hom attacks, lies, deceptions, etc. isn't how fair minded people go about making a case for their side. It's how the morally bankrupt, desperate, and self serving do it. In this case it happens to be debasing those who are pro-choice and/ or evolutionists by implying that only someone with those outlooks would do such a thing. As if no creationist would ever break the law (Kent Hovind), espouse disorderly conduct (Fred Phelps), or engage in pedophilia (Tony Alamo).

Dang. I'm pro-choice. I believe evolutionary theory has catapulted human innovation into technological advances that have reduced suffering, saved lives, and brought greater understanding of the living world around us. I also have a child on the autism spectrum.

I don't get where AiG is coming from personally.

^This. I was having trouble getting past the letter. It brought back nasty memories.

Made me sick to my stomach reading it. So, I'm sure it did bring back nasty memories for you (I remember one of your stories).

Disparagement. Whatever it takes to put pro-choice and evolution in a bad light.

Cause of unemployment? Pro-choice and evolution. Cause of obesity? Pro-choice and evolution. Cause of Global warming? Pro-choice and evolution. Alas, having no arguments for creationism, and with arguments against evolution starting to run out of gas, creationists, AiG in particular, are reduced to scrapping the barrel; trying to make some kind, any kind, of connection between evolution/ pro-choice and whatever people currently find abhorrent. Pretty silly, yet also heartening. The more asinine the comments are that come from its leaders the more easily others will see their mission for what it is: worth ignoring.

If that really is the case, then how is it possible that people who are pro-choice and recognize evolution are verbally criticizing this idiot woman? Perhaps it's not a fruit of the world view?

"Whaling"??? Oh, FFS.. is this some kind of Poe?

Seriously though, that's a classic strawman that AiG use to further their own ends: they're either the most fundamentally stupid people on the planet, or deceitful, disingenous lying weasels. Or possibly a mixture of both: there may well be a number of lying toerags to make up this sort of nastiness, but then you've got those who want to believe that they're the only "nice" people in the world, so latch on to any example of others' perfidity irrespective of whether it's pure fabrication or not.

Nah while it certainly looks poe, when you think about the sheer number of people, this level of stupidity is within the realms of probability. Just another small minded bigot, could be pro-choice, could be pro-life (despite talking about euthanasia), could be religious, could be irreligious (despite using god as an exclamation); I don't know or particularly care, if the writer is genuine then they are intolerant trash, if its a poe they are dishonest trash. Six of one half dozen of the other.

I think this answers the question of the thread that asks what Jesus meant when he said "I don't know you." And who would want to claim knowing such a horrible woman, or any group that would twist something like that into an even uglier mess.

I probably would have knocked on all my neighbors doors and not stopped until I found the coward who wrote it.
Indeed, someone would be answering for it. And EVERYONE would know that someone is very intolerant towards children who aren't "normal."

HA

The one who wrote the letter is such a coward they are probably one of those decrying such behaviour (and the underlying attitudes).

From the article:

the neighborhood has rallied around Max, making a special effort to make him feel welcome in the community,

At least the community is demonstrating to this "person" that he/she/it is alone.

I wonder if the neighbor who wrote it was in the rally too.

The woman who wrote this horrible letter says no else in the neighborhood had the guts to write it. Well, looks like she didnt have the guts to identify herself either! You gatta wonder, this woman must be a very unhappy in her own personal life. We live in an area were people have horses. One lady has two horses and a donkey. The neighbor next to her recently moved in and was complaining when the donkey would bray. He complained to the city! We all wrote letters to the city in her defence. Its like dude! This is an equestrian neighborhood! You knew when you moved in that you had a neighbor that had horses and a donkey! Whats wrong with you?!
If you dont like it here, move! Thats my message to the woman who wrote this venomous letter! The neighborhood would be better off without her!

That letter and the attitude it conveys is deeply disturbing... But turning this into a matter of evolution v. creationism or pro-life v. pro-choice is almost as disturbing; clearly the letter has NOTHING to do with either evolution or abortion rights, and so framing this event in these terms is a transparent attempt to USE this poor family and as a rhetorical tool in the service of a pet agenda... Sad, sad, sad.

We evolved to be empathic creatures who care for our young and even care for people outside our own family circle. So the letter is talking about actions that are going back to the animalistic nature in our past, not evolving to a better being. If the author was seriously thinking about evolution or pro-choice, he/she failed utterly. After all, "pro-choice" has the word "choice" in it, meaning, it was and is the mother's choice, not the author's.

There is absolutely nothing in that letter to indicate that any of the hate that was expressed, was sourced in any way shape or form by Pro-Choice, Evolutionary, or atheist world views what-so-ever!

Honestly, I'm not sure what ****** me off more... The ignorant level of hate from that individual the wrote the letter... Or the way AiG is using it to try and paint a horrible picture of some very good steps in the right direction for social integrity and education... I think my level of disgust is equal for both of them.

AiG doesnt know what its talking about. I am pro-choice, I support the theory of evolution, AND i have Asberger syndrome and ADHD.

The letter was just a case of a very intolerant individual. Its sad that someone can be so narrow minded. And its sad that some people would use something like this for their own agenda.
