Real stupid question.

Would you be upset if somebody would say he saw God and God looks like a smurf and he's really really sure about that.

I know it's a really stupid question, but suddenly I got really curious about it.
I'm going to normalize the question a bit:
For an atheist, many things in religion can sound completelly rediculous. I'll name as example the story about adam, eve and the talking snake. For me for example, God being a smurf would be even more logical than that snakestory.. could you deal with another kind of reality..?

And now reflecting it to the happenings now, What if you would draw an image of some "high being sort of guy" in a completelly other way than most are used to, just because you see it that way..(im not saying that was the fact, im just saying what if..)

Sorry if you think the question was too stupid

Only answers can be stupid ones; never questions.

Well VIshnu does look a tiny bit like a cosmic smurf :)
Frankly, I don't think your question is stupid. In reality, it should not matter an iota just what "god" looks like.

I remember the movie 'Oh, God!' with George Burns playing God. Not that far off from a smurf! And like in the movie, has he stated, he can be who or what ever he wishes to be.

If I allready have a drink and my lazy mate asks me if I would walk all the way to the frich to get a beer for him, I would tell him that's a stupid question :D

YOU SAW HIM TOO???

:D

No, it never ceases to amaze me when I hear all sorts of stories about what people think they have seen. Are they deluded? Possibly. Do they have delusional tendencies? Are they normally lucid and truthful? All these would start to determine my response.

people remake the image of G-d all the time, that is why there are so many differing opinions on Him and His will

if someone thought G-d was a smurf...that's fine, it's not my personal cup of tea, but whatever:rolleyes:

If God was a smurf, I'd have to start trying to catch him... like Papa Smurf wasn't enough! Now there's Master of the Universe Smurf to cope with.

*Sigh*, Guess the wooden cages will have to go. Anyone got any cosmic proof forcefields?

This begs the Question, do we see God in our own image ?
Or are we in His?

The next question is how would a being from another world see God?
Like himself?
or like man?

The likelyhood is, that each species sees God Differently; either like them selves or as their ideal being.

None of these alternatives need be wrong.

First of all, I don't think there are any stupid questions, only those that people don't ask.

As to God looking like a smurf, I don't think any of us know what God really looks like and I don't think God cares much what our image of him/her is either. I think what's important is connecting with a Source that we are able to relate to and that helps us live more compassionately and fulfill our potential.

I think we know basically what he looks like, and I do think he cares.

Surely that depends of your interpretation of 'in his image'; I presume you take that as the visual, while I take it in the way of "Abilities,potential..."

If this god fellow created the entire universe, filled with some trillions of planets (can't remember any actual estimates), making it by the laws of probability pretty well impossible for us to be alone, but then designed one race after himself, I would think that a bit unfair. The odds of us finding another race of advanced intelligence that remotely resembles our own is quite unlikely, although with billions of years and trillions of planets the odds of there being another advanced race aren't too bad. How can we say that we are the ones created in his image? Wanna bet they'd be saying it too?
I can't really say what my goddess looks like, and indeed she probably isn't even a visible being, if 'being' is even an accurate description (thinking more of a universal energy sorta thing, like things described in quantam mechanics). I don't really care how anyone chooses to see their god, or mine, whatever makes it easier for you, and I don't think I would really want to follow a god that would get all bent out of shape because of how a few meager mortals view him. I think there are more imporatant things to worry about, personally.

[font=&quot]no, it shouldn’t matter, moreover, the more prevalent question would be;
what would knowing how god looked like tell us about him?

we are told by the Christian faith, that we were made in his likeness...
therefore there can be no debate... (speaking from a Christian point) about this
and yet all these questions about how he would look...
just another loophole in religion... where assumption is grown, facts are killed.

Well, I don't personally think He does look like a Smurf, but I don't really care a whole lot what He looks like.

Has anyone ever seen the South Park version of god? Now that's a different looking whatever it is! I don't think that god looks like anything, so it can be perceived as anything our minds are capable of comprehending. If you can envision god as a 10 year old asian girl, that's what you will see, like-wise, if you see god as an Arabian horse then that is what you will see. If someone sees god as a smurf...perhaps they watched a little too much cartoons as a child...but who is anyone to judge? Smurf, Snork, Popeye the Sailorman, He-Man, Shaggy, who knows...just a few too many cartoons maybe? :jester3:
