Deut. 32.8 said:I hate to disappoint, but I consider it a sectarian squabble with no possible resolution, since it's based on the illusion that we know how to take the NT and differentiate between fact, fable, and fabrication in such a way as to cull anything of historical value. Those who say 'a Christian is {X} because Jesus said {Y}' should pay serious attention to the scriptural reference to throwing stones and its implications.
This isn't about "squabbling" but rather trying to define a term. I don't call myself a Christian because I think the name has become synonymous with hate and intolerance; however, I like to be clear about what we're talking about.
I would be interested in other opinions, because the Christians I'm more familiar with are very clear that just because you believe Jesus is the Son of God, it doesn't mean you're a Christian. My mom's family is Catholic and their priests told her family that Christians were considered a cult. I assume this is just because my mom turned away from the Catholic faith, but am not sure.
