Yeah, the founders of democracy, the Greeks, were well known for their slaves. Some democracy!

Well sure except that we can all acknowledge the Greeks were primitive and we've progressed beyond their time and society.

When it comes to Christianity and slavery we have their holy text that's supposedly the ultimate pillar of truth endorsing it.

Greek democracy was in no way shape or form a representative democracy in the manner in which we understand it today.

  • You had to be Male
  • You had to have 2 Greek citizens as parents
  • You had to own land
  • You had to be an adult

But, that was pretty enlightened by the standards of the day. Heck, it was pretty enlightened by the standards of a much later day.

Frederick Douglass reported in his autobiography as a slave that the more devout Christian slave-owners tended to be more cruel, and not because of hypocrisy. But, at the same time, he also suggested (as I recall) that true Christianity was in conflict with slavery. So Douglass painted a complicated picture of the relationship between religious faith and slavery, one worth considering.

The God of the bible seem's like a lot of weird thing's to me. A lot weirder than me.

He likes to huff immolated animal carcasses: "As an aroma pleasing to the LORD, offer a burnt offering of one young bull, one ram and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect." -Numbers 29:2
