Are Catholics Christians?

Strange, nobody has answered back about the sites I gave them. Come on people, have some courage and take a look at them. Read them from start to finish and then talk about it here, thats what I posted them for :D

because He states that the bread and wine are His Body and Blood. In rememberance, we remember what he did for us. We remember the Last Supper and how He gave us this gift. The Gift of Himself. His Body. His Blood.

“ Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink..” – John 6:53-55

“The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?” – 1 Corinthians 10:16 “Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.” – 1 Corinthians 11:27,29

Simguy -
I visited the first link you posted - and I replied to you after the visit to it.
"Well, I went to the web site listed above. I was very impressed. I'd say this is as fine an example of "poisoning the well" as I have seen in a long time. At least the people that wrote it are open minded and willing to discuss the issues with believers of the other faiths :sarcastic . Makes me glad I'm an Agnostic. I think ours was the only group left out of the attacks.

One thing about it simguy - you should get more than a few good replies from this one. I think I'll sit back and watch the fur fly now. When SOG and a few others get into this, it'll be a real show. ;) "

Basically, I was saying that the first site you hyperlinked to was pretty much garbage. I'll stay with that assessment. When the first one is that much trash, I'll skip the others. My only complaint is that I wasted 25 minutes of my life trying to find something of value at the site. My loss. :bonk:

“suffer in purgatory” I hate that phrase. One doesn’t suffer in purgatory. One gets pure. Think of it like a car wash. We are the dirty car. To go to the Oscars, we need a reallllly clean car. What do we do? We get the car washed. Some cars are dirtier than others. They need to stay in the car was longer than others. Others have relatively clean cars and need only a little time at the car wash. Of course, there is no concept of time to God. But you get the idea.

Most of what I have found on this site basically describes the difference in Catholic and Protestant, in a negative light. And rather rude, if I may say.

http://www.born-again-christian.info/catholics.htm

First of all, this is by a total different denomination. They don’t really understand what they are talking about. I won’t point all of the mistakes out, but one “The Virgin Mary saves.” Umm… what is that all about? “Mary has never had anything to do with the salvation process.” Well, that part is not quite true. Mary is the Mother of God. She brought Jesus into the World. She did God’s will. She said yes. She is not the savior. But, she did bring the Savior into the World.

This is all I will say on this, because, I have to get off soon, so I want to check out the other website. There are a lot of mistakes in the born-again-Christian site, though.

This one is based on an opinion on what a Christian is. But what is the true def. for a Christian? Some one who loves Christ? That is what I take to be a Christian.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father; He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Amen.

[/quote]Yes, I am apart of the catholic church thankyou. I am NOT apart of the Roman Catholic religion which gives nothing but blashpemous teachings and doctrines.

No, Muslims are taught to love Christ. A Christian is somebody who has their faith in Christ and Christ alone.

Anybody who reads either of those verses regarding communion will take it as symbolic. Unless of course they have been poisoned by the highly blashpeming and insulting catholic doctrines which will then influence their thinking. Jesus often spoke in parables and used symbolic language, his work is finished - it is not repeated constantly.

Simguy -

Ease up a little - the whole reason that this site exists is to debate and discuss the religious principles that each hold dear (or not ;) ). Calling other people "blasphemers" and attacking their belief system is not going to lead you to winning any debates or converting others to your views.
Simply attacking the views of others will only alienate you, and everyone will soon stop reading (or responding to) your posts. When this happens, it is your message that will no longer be received, and the loss will be yours.
Or, you could just tone it down a notch (or two) and continue to be accepted by the community here.

Personally, I think you have little chance of convincing anyone of anything, unless you work a little logical and rational thought into some of your arguments. The idea that you and your God will curse everyone that disagrees with you to hell isn't going to fly very far on this website. :retarded:

Outstanding job GungaAnn and Dave!:jam:

We have in simguy a perfect example of an anti-Catholic, helping to feed the evangelical fires of hate.

One suggestion: swapping Bible verses usually is fruitless, try a few quotes from 1st century Christians.... they would probably know better than you or I if the Apostles thought Jesus was being symbolic with Communion.

simguy, you can play along as well........ try to find some quotes for the first, say 200 years, after the death of Christ that show the early Christians viewed Communion as symbolic. Good luck!

Peace,
Scott

TVOR,

HA! How right you are! My bad!

You might not want to associate with "us Catholics".... these evangelical/fundamentalists can get pretty nasty!

Thanks again,
Scott

Hey, I'm not anti catholic I was simply adding a new flavour to the topic. Most of what I wrote wasn't from me anyway but copied and pasted from the websites. I didn't mean to upset anybody and I believe that I am part of the catholic church. However, I just can't see that this and the roman catholic religion are one of the same thing.

Anyway, clearly I made a mistake posting here (I don't mean that as an intimidating remark) and I apologise to those who felt insulted by what I posted, I will confess that I did get well out of hand and that is unusually out of character for me. I'll definately keep an eye on this debate but probably won't fuel it anymore :)

God bless,

Simon

Not anti-Catholic, eh?

I don't think you upset anyone, you posted a few things and my fellow Catholics and I tried to show you your errors.

I think the most insulting part is backing out when asked to provide some factual/historical evidence for your beliefs.

Oh well, life goes on. Peace be with you.

Hey I only backed out because it was best to quit this debate there and then. I only made a few posts and already people seemed to be stressing. I thought it best if I leave the debate to you lot, thats all. I am not a total expert on roman catholicism so I just thought I would chuck a few websites into the topic and a few quotes.

As for my beliefs, I don't believe I stated them clearly before. I basically believe in the Bible. For example, I have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son and HS (baptism is not an ingredient of salvation by the way) and accepted Jesus as my Lord & saviour. Am I now a catholic? Or what else according to God's word would I need to do?

Blessings,

Simon

Galatians 2:16 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ."

Jesus would disagree, but I am sure that a Christian 2,000 years later and less than one year of belief would know better.... right?

Sure. All Christians are part of the catholic Church, just not all are part of the Catholic church.

Peace,
Scott

Could you explain this a little more clearly?

We are all part of the universal(catholic) church of Christ, we do not all however agree with things in the RCC thus we are not Catholics.

I see. Thank you Mister Emu.

But how can anyone say that baptism is not necessary in light of Acts 2:38?
