Are you an example to other people?

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glrify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

So are you an example like this to other people. Do you set an example so that other people will know your God/Goddess/Creator/etc. through you?

My wife does, more then me, and gets persecuted for it by so called Christians. But her light shines through as God sees who is Christ-like. I admire her convictions and love for nature. She is truely blessed.

I didn't realize how much my oldest blood related niece looked up to me, until my sister informed me I got her daughter listening to Disturbed. The one nephew I have that I don't like that much, I scare him so much he doesn't like being around me, which is good because he doesn't need to turn out like me. And then my 4 year old nephew, who I love very much, is already starting to take after me, and he has the right personality. I can't wait till he's tall enough to ride the big roller coasters at Cedar Point. And then old enough to go to concerts and mosh with me, and I have a strong feeling were going to get high together.

we are all examples of something.

But good bad or indifferent.
I just don't know.

I think everyone here really is an example of God/Goddess/Creator/etc. You all have done a great job being examples. :)

I'm trying, but I tend to forget who I'm representing. I'm trying recently to make a better example, and I include that in my prayers, but I still don't think I'm doing as good of a job as I could be. Maybe I just keep measuring myself to other people, instead of myself. Like, "Wow, that guy is a good example of what mormonism is all about. I'm not, though. :( Why can't I be more like him?" Then I tend to downplay what I'm doing. It's a twofold thing. Yes, it helps me to try harder, but it also makes me feel rather worthless and stupid.

That is a dreadful trap to fall into, but oh so easy! I, for example know that I am miles away from how I would like to imagine myself. The only person I ever measure myself against is Jesus Christ, which means I fail miserably.

It's called 'frames of reference' - and the trouble is, the higher you aim, the more it hurts when you don't do very well. Perhaps depression doesn't help, but oh how I empathise with
but it also makes me feel rather worthless and stupid
The trouble is, that I seem to 're-offend', that is what annoys me most.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, AL. Personally, I think you're wonderful.

My first response to the thread title was "Example of what?!" In my case, I'd probably wind up being an example of Girl Who Sticks Apple Stickers on Her Forehead and Forgets to Take Them Off.

But I think that you really can't be an example to another person. Either that person has the attributes in them that they wish to come forward or not, and there's really no way to force them to. If they do wish to have certain attributes to come forward and wish to have someone to help 'call them forth', though, I can only hope that people would look to me for good attributes rather than bad ones.

I try to be such an example but I suspect that the only example I succeed in making is how not to be a good Orthodox Christian - I do that frequently!

Bruce hit it on the head! EVERYONE is an example. Some are examples of humility and patience while others are examples of excesses. It kinda reminds me of a sign in an office:

Everyone brings joy to my office:
Some when they enter,
And others when they leave!

It is my desire to be a blessing to as many as possible.

Matthew 7:15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
