Dressing up for Church.

EEWRED, should a person not wear what they are comfortable in? But then again, the Pharisees loved to dress up too. 1 Samuel 16:7 says alot.

Do you 'dress up' for church? Do you wear a dress or if your male wear a suit and tie? Do you think it's important to do so? If you do, what do you think of people that don't? (Please be honest.)
Sometimes I dress up . . . and sometimes I dress down . . . it doesn't matter . . . Christianity is about your heart worshipping Jesus.

How many of you have a 'dress code' at your church? If someone showed up in jeans, would they be told to wear something 'more appropriate? And if they refused, would they be asked to leave?

I think everyone should dress how they feel is appropriate and comfortable for them and let others do the same without judgement.

Some people just may not be able to afford really nice, fancy clothes.

No. Ours has no dress code at all. Though a member asked me if I would like to buy a dress instead of the dress pants I was wearing. I said I didn't have any money, so they bought it for me... That doesn't really count, though. I wasn't told to leave, and the only reason they thought I might want one was to fit in better...

But then again, the Pharisees loved to dress up too.
And they did nothing else. That's allthey did. There's a huge difference.

None that I know of. People regularly come in jeans to church and even shorts in summer. We have someone who makes announcements before the service and they will even sometimes wear a wild hat or shirt to attract attention so people will listen to the announcements. We are not stuffy about dress, lol. No one would be refused to attend a service because of what they are wearing.

And that is basically what I said. If the importance is on how comfortable you are and what you have n in comparison to everyone around you as you enter the place of worship, then you have pretty much lost the point of worship to begin with. I just say that someone should be in the frame of mind when they worship God, to offer to Him the very best that they have and give the very best of their mind, soul and body when they worship Him.

Well this is where we differ. Most UUs do not go to church to worship God, although we may talk about God from time to time. ;)

I value what's in my heart more. And why should I care about what others's are wearing? God looks at what's inside me. man looks at what I wear. If I'm more comfortable wearing jeans, then my attention is towards God, NOT what I'm or others are wearing.

Do you honestly think that God would say "
WOW! That Jeff sure has a good heart! But I don't like the jeans he has on... To hell he goes!"

If someone wore jeans to an LDS Church service, he'd be warmly welcomed. No one would say a thing about his clothing.

Yeah, I guess you're right. But I've seen a few people show up in my ward whose dress did not conform to "normally accepted standards," and they were totally accepted.

Same for me and, like someone else said, it's a way of showing respect to not turn up scruffy. About the only thing that actually annoys me is if men wear hats in Church because it's disrespectful. Thankfully I hardly ever see that, but other than that one thing I don't feel I should comment on what another wears. It's good that they turn up whatever they wear.

I don't think a person's attire should matter. If you wish to wear a shirt and tie, cool. But don't get down on me if I don't. I shower, shave, brush my hair and comb my teeth. :D And if someone shows up with a hangover, more power to him. Loving God from within is what's important.

I'd go dressed relatively well, not because I think God would care, but because I think our screwed up society would care. Is it worth getting into a big debate with the priest and getting chucked out of the Church simply because of something so trivial? Nope so I just choose not to make a big deal.
