hehe Good question;retrorich said:If God is omniscient, He knows all our thoughts. Why is it necessary for us to pray? Is it because His ego is stroked by having us beg and plead?
It does? Are you saying that God is NOT omniscient--that he does NOT know all our thoughts? My question was not meant to be about authority, but rather about communication. In addition to prayer, can God be reached by email and fax?michel said:hehe Good question;
As He created life on the earth, God said "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over...all the earth."(Genesis 1:26) (Genesis 1:27-28) Also, Psalm 8 refers to humans as having been made "a little lower than God" and "made...to have dominion over the works of Your hands." The earth was completely given over to Adam as its manager or governor. So complete and final was Adam's authority over the earth that he, not just God, had the ability to give it away to another! Without question, humans were forever to be God's link to authority and activity on the earth."*
In other words, Scripture could hardly be more clear in telling us that God limited Himself, in the affairs of earth, to working through human beings. This explains the necessity of prayer.

That, to me implies that God set limits on himself (Not that he was unable, but unwilling to do so)In other words, Scripture could hardly be more clear in telling us that God limited Himself, in the affairs of earth, to working through human beings.
But prayer cuts through those self-imposed limitations?michel said:That, to me implies that God set limits on himself (Not that he was unable, but unwilling to do so)
Sorry Rich, you've lost me. We can pray for help in understanding things, we can pray to try and help those who are in pain, or in need..........I don't see the point you're making.retrorich said:But prayer cuts through those self-imposed limitations?
I can understand the usefulness of prayer if it worked. My question is: If God knows all our thoughts, why is it necessary for us to go through the conscious process of praying--especially praying out loud?michel said:Sorry Rich, you've lost me. Good point! I feel that prayer is a form of psychological catharsis, to make people feel better. I fact, in my atheistic opinion, that is also the only valid usefulness of religion in general, other than allowing humans to control other humans through dogma.jgallandt said:I also believe that prayer is more for us, not God. God knows our thoughts, knows our needs, but we need to ask, to acknowledge God. It is a way to bring us closer to him.
Nice explanation! Welcome to Religious Forums. Frubals to you.sfsoldier said:yes it is true that God knows our thoughts even before we think them. the reason for prayer is to develope a relationship with Him, its our way of communicating with Him, to show our dependence on Him and to glorify Him.
put it this way, if you are in love with someone you want to be with that person as much as possible and you want to share your most intiment thoughts and feelings. if you dont spend time sharing your thoughts and feelings then you will never truely know that person.
this is what God wants, a deep, meaningful and loving relationship with you.
i hope this cleared things up for you
