praying to...

Do you think it makes more sense to pray to the universe, the sun, the earth, nature, or even cosmic microwave background radiation (the oldest light in the universe) than to some imaginary deity?

Asking for stuff, while sitting or standing in a quiet place, hoping or believing it will become true miraculously.

Is there another way?

Do you believe this things have the power to deliver this stuff to you? and may be persuaded to do so by your praying?

There are gods for all of these things.

Except maybe microwave radiation... Maybe this is what Spaghetti Monster rules (pasta lama laikum).

I don't know. Do deities pray?

Sir Doom said it straightforwardly. In many languages, the same word is used to refer to the Sun, and the Sun god, etc. They are the same until secularism is introduced.

Deities emerge from deified natural properties and cosmic forces.

Most of us don't think of God as Santa Claus. I pray for well-being for my fellow human beings, mostly and more directly my family and friends and a couple of my neighbors here who have cancer- that God watches over them and their families.

These things have the power. I have no clue if they can deliver the stuff to me, but at least we know they exists.

If you think the posibility is greaten than the posibility you would put on those deities you call "imaginary" then sure, praying to those would make more sense.

Probably it would. That's why I choose not to pray to imaginary deities, only the real one.

Overlooking that imaginary =/= not real...

Obviously, as a Neopagan, I would say yes to this question. Of course I don't really "pray" to Sun Spirit and the like. It would be more accurate to say I honor and revere them as gods because I depend on them for my existence. Things like "prayers" either take the form of spellcraft or get cast out to the aspects I have a more personal relationship with (e.g., "spirit guides" as some in the community like to call them).

It all depends on what you are defining as "prayer".
Focusing on God is in how your perception operates.
Saying he is imaginary is not lacking. A person must consider and accept what god is before he can be imagined or realized. The imagery captures the world of where one places the perception.
Energy is a great part of God ( in my beliefs).
I would not imagine praying to it or focusing on it. BUT if it is a conduit of which he or she reaches to interact and connect with me I will not fail to see it as a aspect og god.

Sending a symbolical prayer towards our vast and amazing Universe, our tiny Earth or the laws of physics can be very rewarding. I don't believe in or expect any miraculous or supernatural response, the calm and happiness it brings simply comes from within ourselves.

just the other day...my mom and i were heading out of town for the weekend thereby leaving her home unattended, and as she was locking her door she started to pray for god to protect her home

i wanted to say something like, 'so god won't protect your home if you don't ask him too...??" or "do you know better than god, is god not aware that your home means a lot to you?"

If I strongly believe in unicorns, and somebody says to me that they're only imaginary fictional creatures. Then I'd say to this person that saying unicorns are imaginary is not lacking. Would that make my case any stronger? Energy is the work being done by one thing to another thing. It's not like an object one can have. We have a pretty good idea how the universe works, and what's in it. We have no idea how or why God works.
