“Everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.”

pc-sm1.gif

READINGS:
1. Ecclesiastes 3:17-18, 20, 28-29
2. Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24
3. Gospel of Luke 14:7-14

REFLECTION: Humble yourself. Know who you are. Know that you flow out from God as his creation, that all you are and have flows out of his goodness. To be humble means ever to be in need of blessings, ever to receive from God all that we are and have.

PRAYER: Lord, help us to see the truth about ourselves. May we never deny our strengths and virtues either. To deny these would be to deny the goodness of what you have made. Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
Meditate today on what you think being humble means.

Tuesday:
Use your special gifts today to do something for the family.

Wednesday:
Pray with your family today the Mysteries of Light of the Rosary.

Thursday:
At dinner tonight discuss the special gifts that each possesses and give thanks.

Friday:
Read the gospel today as meditation. Luke 14, 7-14.

Saturday:
Today is a special day to honor Mary. Pray to her that you and your family might imitate her humility.

PRAYER: Lord, as our lives unfold from day to day, help us to accept in a spirit of peace all that they bring us. Help us to meet the difficulties that come with courage and humility. Amen.

I call to you all day long, have mercy on me, O Lord. You are good and forgiving, full of love for all who call to you. (Ps 85)

Lord Jesus, in our journey in life we desire to please you. Help us this day to remain in your love and to continue to carry this desire to please you in our hearts so that we may grow in wisdom and knowledge of your presence in our lives. We ask this in your name. Amen.

Lord, you are just, and the judgments you make are right. Show mercy when you judge me, your servant. (Ps 118)

Lord our God, in you justice and mercy meet. With unparalleled love you have saved us from death and drawn us into the circle of your life. Open our eyes to the wonders this life sets before us, that we may serve you free from fear and address you as God our Father. We ask this in your name. Amen.

I call to you all day long, have mercy on me, O Lord. You are good and forgiving, full of love for all who call to you. (Ps 85)

God our Creator, in our prayer this day, we reflect on the goodness that surrounds us and are mindful of the love you have shown us in all of creation. May our hearts be filled with love for you, may our faith increase with each new day and may we grow in our respect for all of creation that is part of our lives. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Give peace, Lord, to those who wait for you and your prophets will proclaim you as you deserve. Hear the prayers of your servant and of your people Israel. (Sir 36)

Lord Jesus, we come to you this day in our hour of need. Help us to be able to verbalize to you what lives in the depths of our hearts and open our ears to hear your response when we cry out to you for help. We ask this in your name. Amen.

A great prophet has risen in our midst and God has visited his people. (Lk 7)

God our Father, we come to you this day remembering St. Gregory the Great who is a fine example of what it means to share your gifts for the glory of God. He gives us enormous examples of what the works of chairty and justice are all about in our world. May we learn from this great person what it means to live in service to our brothers and sisters. We give you thanks for the gift of this person in our church history and may we learn from his examples and be open to share our gifts with those around us. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

“Prosper the work of our hands, O Lord! Prosper the work of our hands.” (Psalms 90:17)

READINGS:
1. Wisdom 9:13-18
2. Philemon 9-10,12-17
3. Gospel of Luke 14:25-33

REFLECTION: If we listen carefully to the Gospel for this Sunday, we find that it does indeed fit into our lives. It provides us with a lesson that comes quite naturally at this time of transition from summer to fall. What are your goals? What adjustments do you need to make in your schedules and in your priorities?.

PRAYER: Lord, many projects call for our time and energy. Show us how to treat each fairly. We can’t be super people. Help us know what we can handle for our own good and the good of others. Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
Think today about the value of work, work that brings in a salary and that which we do as volunteers.

Tuesday:
Pray today for all those who are without work, those who suffer personally and those who suffer because they are unable to support their families.

Wednesday:
Feast of Our Lady’s Nativity. Have a birthday cake today to remember this great gift of God to us, His and Our Mother.

Pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary today for all those seeking good work/employment.

Saturday:
Pray today for families, for those sending their children back to school.

PRAYER: Lord, you bless us freely with those gifts we need for work: energy, health, intelligence, imagination, skill, interest. We praise you and thank you for your goodness. Amen.

O Lord, you have given everything its place in the world, and no one can make it otherwise. For it is your creation, the heavens and the earth and the stars: you are the Lord of all.

God our creator, we come before you this day in praise and worship for the marvels of your creation. All of nature sings of your glory. May we always come before you in prayer, mindful of your greatness and to give praise and glory to the creation which you have blessed us with in our lives. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

If you, O Lord, laid bare our guilt, who could endure it? But you are forgiving, God of Israel. (Ps 129)

Father in heaven, your hand guides our every move. We come before you this day in need of your guidance in our lives and ask you to give us the graces we need to live according to your word. As we walk this journey in life, may we always turn to you for guidance and may we always recognize your hand guiding us along the path. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Lead me in your justice, Lord. (Ps 5)

quote-16_image-02-sm.jpg

God of mercy and hope, we come to you this day remembering the examples of St. Peter Claver. He devoted his life to the service of those who were in need of water, food and medicine. This day, let us pray for all who are in situations where they need assistance with food and medicine. Let us remember those who volunteer to help in food pantries and in health clinics throughout the world. May they know of your mercy and hope in their lives. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek always the face of the Lord. (Ps 104)

Praised be you, God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no power for good which does not come from your covenant, and no promise to hope in, that your love has not offered. Strengthen our faith to accept your covenant and give us the love to carry out your command. We ask this in your name. Amen.

Do not abandon me, Lord. My God, do not go away from me! Hurry to help me, Lord, my Savior. (Ps 37)

God of Compassion, we are in great need of your loving presence in our lives. In this hour of darkness, hear our prayers as we cry out to you in our pain, confusion and fear. We hunger for your wisdom to nourish us with strength and courage as we struggle to make sense out of the tragedies which have befallen us. We thrist for the spring of life-giving waters, which purify and sanctify life as the pain and anguish are overwhelming. In your son's earthly life, he gave us the Beatitudes to guide us along our journey. May we draw new life from the examples he gave of how to respond to life's situations and to focus our attention on the greater good of all. May we become prayerful people full of hope, peace and love. So the words, "A world at prayer is a world at peace", will echo true in all your people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
A special day of prayer for all the families and victims of 9-11 and the members and families of our armed forces.

READINGS:
1. Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14
2. 1Timothy 1:12-17
3. Gospel of Luke 15:1-32

REFLECTION: The first reading for Sunday (Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14) presents us with the following situation: the people of Israel have turned away from the Lord and are worshipping false gods. Moses steps forward to intercede. Jesus does the same for us. He stands continually before the Father, asking mercy and forgiveness for us.

PRAYER: Loving Lord, we place before you our needs and those of our brother and sisters. Present them for us to your Father and ours. Amen.

We should glory in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, for he is our salvation, our life and our resurrection; through him we are saved and made free. (Gal 6)

Lord Jesus, on this feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, let us take a moment and remember all those who have asked for our prayers. As we pray, may the cross that people carry in their lives be lifted up to you, so that you may help them carry their cross. May they feel your presence in their lives and may they always know of your loving care for them in their journey in life. We ask this in your name. Amen.

The Lord is kind and merciful. (Ps 103)

Lord Jesus, in these days that we are living, there is much sadness and fear in our world. Help us to turn towards you for strength and courage to bear the tragedies and sorrows that we are facing. Help us to grow in trust that we will know of your loving presence in our lives and in the world. We ask this in your name. Amen.

Lord show us your mercy and love. (Ps 85)

Lord Jesus, we are aware of your love and mercy. Yet there are times when our interaction with others clouds our seeing your presence in our lives. In these moments, may we turn to you for encouragement so that we may always be aware of your loving mercy. We ask this in your name. Amen.

The Lord says: my plans for you are peace and not disaster; when you call to me, I will listen to you, and I will bring you back to the place from which I exiled you. (Jer 29)

God our Father, we hear the words of the prophet Jeremiah recalling that the plans you have for us are peace and not diaster and that you will listen to us. As we celebrate the feast of St. Robert Bellarmine who is the patron saint of catechists and catechumens, we pray for all who teach our young people about the faith and for those who are seaching to know more about you. May we remain faithful to your words and serve you in faith and in love. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Go and preach to all nations: baptize them and teach them to observe all that I have commanded you, says the Lord. (Mt 28)

Lord Jesus, we hear your words of go and preach to all nations. May we learn from the examples and the witness that St. Matthew gave to us while he was on this earth. As we celebrate the feast of St. Matthew, may we remember in prayer all those who work as customs officers and accountants in our world, that they may grow in their knowledge and love of you. We ask this in your name. Amen.

Oooops..... I forgot to post this on Sunday! TRY THESE OUT PEOPLE! :D

“You cannot give yourself to God and money.” (Luke 16:13)

READINGS:
1. Amos 8:4-7
2. 1 Timothy 2:1-8
3. Gospel of Luke 16:1-13

REFLECTION: There is nothing basically wrong with money. But because things such as esteem, a place in society, a future with promise and security can seemingly be achieved by the use of money, we can risk having our values distorted. The readings today urge us to focus our values on living by faith in Jesus and the life of grace.

PRAYER: God our Father and Giver of all gifts, make us grateful for what we have and help us to share with those who have less. May our possessions never get in the way of our loving you and our brothers and sisters. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
Take time today to meditate in prayer regarding our values and the ways we use our money.
