Does it depress you?

Admit it, most of us wanted to grow up to be famous in some field, some of you wanted to be famous thinkers like Einstein, or maybe closer to Epicurus even.

Some of you wanted to be famous actors or rockstars.

But you're not.

Only few people get to become famous, globally famous, but we all want to. Does it depress you that you are only known to people in your area and people that you've met online? That your name wont leave a mark in history, even though YOU know that it deserves to?

No matter how hard you study, how hard you practice, at whatever you're doing, you're not being remembered for it, and you'll never be famous or rich for it.

Not really. If you are happy doing what you do, why would it matter how many people know about it?

Speak for yourself, bub.

I wouldn't go after fame for its own sake, but I have a few ideas on the go that might end up with me being famous. ;)

I must be incredibly weird. I never wanted to be famous. I am a born wallflower and I prefer anonymity.

Fame seems to be a curse. I'd rather not be remembered at all than to be misremembered for events and intentions which may be inaccurate but never proven as such.

How would you know that for sure?

Speaking for myself, there are certain subjects that I have a huge passion for. Whether that will lead me to fame some day is something I don't know, but I would definitely like to be remembered for achieving any feat(s) in those fields; if I don't become famous, I don't see myself feeling anywhere near bad about it (let alone "depressed"), though.

Being remembered after you die would have nothing to do with your life now. The classic example of the personal futility of post-mortem fame is Vincent Van Gogh. In his own lifetime he was what most people would call a total loser.

Being famous while you are alive sucks bigtime according to many of the famous. For the famous, fame is a kind of prison - an inescapable demand which deprives them of life's pleasures, and infests their lives with insincere sycophantic wannabe friends. Generally only narcissists get any pleasure from it, and even then it is all a bit desperate.

On the other hand, being recognised for making valuable contributions of some kind, be it art or science, social reform or whatever, is generally appreciated.

Ultimately though, the only thing worth more than fetid dingo's kidneys is being at peace with yourself. That is true for a famous person or someone in obscurity, or even for an infamous person.

I don't agree that everyone wants fame. At least, 'global fame', as you referred to it. A majority? Probably, but not necessarily all.

That said, personally, i can see how fame would be beneficial to me in some regards. Not on its own, or because it'll make me happy, but as means to something else. Its safe to say that in regards to a couple of my goals, such fame would at least be helpful in achieving them, if nothing else. As such, i can't say that i don't want fame.

The problem is however that such level of fame would also directly oppose some of my personal preferences, as in my view it has some serious side effects.

And as such, i can't really say that i'm at all sad (let alone depressed) that i'm not famous right now. My feelings towards it are somehow balanced out. The different impulses, preferences and/or reasonings that i have towards the idea and its consequences result in me being generally pretty much okay with whatever happens in that department. Or, makes me approach it in a neutral fashion.

I most likely would never particularly seek such fame, but, also, its not likely that i would avoid it.

While I'll agree I imagine myself being interviewed or on some grand stage, they are usually humorous fantasies, they are not my goal. I use them to sometimes beat negative emotions.

As a whole I believe I will live eternally through my friends and family, much as I tell my kids about my friends and relatives that have past and what I admire about them. I think about the good times I have had with all those that have past but I live for those that live today. I also maintain my family tree.

I don't care about rich. I only want a small footnote in the records of history, and seeing as I have most of my life ahead, challenge accepted.

There may have been a time way back when I would have
valued all that a bit more, but I've been craving more and
more the peace, quiet, and solitude that celebrity seems to
deprive people.

Now, I would rather be among the world's best-kept secrets
than uber-famous. :D

I have no desire to be famous for fame's sake, but I do hope my life leaves a positive, lasting legacy---kind of in a Mother Theresa sort of way. That would be enough for me.

I dont really want to be famous. I would prefer to be able to go around without everyone recognizing me and looking at me and trying to talk to me etc..

I wouldn't mind doing something that would positively impact people. Well, I think I have already done that, lots of people do that without realizing it.

Anyway, the closest to "fame" I would ever want to be is to be a good musician who is recognized by other good musicians as a good musician. Being recognized for my craft by fellows of the same craft.

fame is over rated.

do what ever you do because you love it...if you don't love it, leave it and find something you love doing.
