No skin off my nose

Why would the creator of everything, I can't even envisage that, want me to believe that he exists or want me to pray to him once a decade or 16 times a day.? Why would such a being care who I have sex with, whether I swear or not, whether I love my pets enough? Why would such an all powerful, all knowing being care about any of that stuff and why would such a being make me live a life of misery just so he could give me a better life after he kills me?

Other than the obvious answer for ***** and giggles. The other answer is that he doesn't, and you need to stop being obsessed about a God which possibly doesn't even exist.

She wants to test you - whether you act exactly as her knowledge told her you would. She knew every act of yours even before she created you.

For the sake of it.
For a test.
The divinity is malevolent.
It doesn't care.
For reasons we cannot understand.

There are many reasons that people give. Some of them are more satisfactory than others.

My own conception of God does not care about one's sex-life, belief in It, etc.

Think of it this way, you are God, what do you do? Anything you do isn't interesting because you know everything about it before you do it. You're stuck. You exist but you can't get away from your own, all knowing, ability. So, you create a universe with some rules and then fragment yourself into the life that exists in that universe. Now, things are exciting and dangerous. Now there is truly something to wonder about.

Well I think God loves us even if we don't return HIs love ...Generally I think God is involved with humanity to raise us to higher plateaus and achievements. I think there is misery in life and that we should seek to reduce it where possible ... If you read the Gospel or other Holy Books I think you'll see that Prophets are urging us to reduce the suffering of others and serve humanity.

God isn't going to kill you...as far as your pets go and your sex life well maybe your too focused on that..

Good question. Even the Bible asks a similar question. Why does He bother with us at all? To our minds, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but from my own personal experience, even though I can't fathom why the Creator would care a straw about insignificant, puny, little me, I'm awfully glad He does, because it means my life has a purpose and He provides me with a sense of security and peace that I can't find anywhere else.

Well, I think the reason He does is because He made you in a world with other people, and since He cares about everyone, not just you, He has to provide us with guidelines so we don't hurt each other. Every one of our actions, no matter how "harmless" they may seem to us, has repercussions on other people, and God sees in advance how our actions will affect other people (and ourselves), so He's too good and loving simply to leave us alone. He wants the best for us.

Well, as far as your living a life of misery now, that's really entirely up to you. This may sound hard to believe, but no pain in this world can truly defeat us if we have a close relationship with God. I speak from experience, by the way, because I have been through some pretty excruciating stuff in my life. It's all about our attitude. No pain is wasted if it draws us to God, and He definitely heals and comforts all who come to Him.

I personally think that this life is simply "training" for the one to come. Pain is a tough schoolmaster, but it's usually the only thing that can really build character into us. Instead of creating us with our character already perfectly formed, God allows us the opportunity to grow into it---which, while tough, can actually be an adventure. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have an eventful life with some pain and hardship in it, with obstacles to overcome and mountains to climb, than a boring life of total ease and comfort.

My comment:

That's good! .. I believe that too...that we are here to develope virtues and develope spiritually to prepare for the next life... just as the foetus in the womb is preparing for the next life. :)

Your life has a purpose and that purpose is to live in paradise after your life? Yeah well my life has purpose as well and hoping for eternity with your god isn't it.

God sees in advance what will happen. So he is really just playing with us, because no matter what we decide god already knew we would decide that and in god's knowledge each and everyone of us is either in heaven or hell, even those billions of yet unborn.

Actually I don't live my life in misery, but millions do. Have you ever told a mother in Africa with starving children how wonderful her life is? No pain is to hard to bear, especially watching your precious children suffer and die and you can't help. Yep god is good.

So here we are again, this purpose of your wonderful god given life is to die and actually get a wonderful god given extra life. Thanks for that.

If you don't want to pray to God or you don't believe in God, then why are worried about it? Just don't pray.
I personally believe that God wants us all to make choices that will be beneficial to us. He also wants us to make choices, period. The God I believe in doesn't want a bunch of robots or zombies- that would be incredibly boring.
And bad things do happen and no one ever said that bad things wouldn't happen. It's sad but it's a fact of life. Not even Jesus said that nothing bad would ever happen- but we believe God is there if bad things do happen.

I'm glad to hear you're not miserable. That was simply the impression I got from your pessimistic post.

I am well aware millions of people live horrific lives...I've seen such suffering firsthand and interacted with people who live in unimaginable squalor and poverty. But you know what impressed me about many of these people? Despite their hardships, they were some of the kindest, most humble, and most generous people I've ever met. Their lives are definitely not wonderful---"wonderful" is your term, not mine---but they see the world in a way I envy. I've read plenty of stories of mothers, and fathers, in countries around the world, who have endured hunger, loss of children, loss of spouse, torture, etc., and yet have found strength and comfort in God through it all. Instead of becoming bitter and wallowing in their misery, they have turned to God instead, allowing Him to create His character in them.

Again, it's all in how we respond to the trials dealt to us. You can choose to moan about the pointlessness of everything, or you can choose to make the most of the life given to you, and perhaps leave a legacy by impacting the life of someone else. Maybe by helping that woman in Africa whose children are starving?:)

OK! These trials dealt to us by an omniscient god, who knew the outcome of said trial before he created anything, are dealt to us for what reason? Before even creation god says I'm gonna give Hope a hard time and this is precisely how she will respond in a couple of billion years. Then when the time comes he gives Hope grief and lo and behold he was right, who woulda thunk it.
And why am I left to do the heavy lifting for a god who knew aeons ago that the children he created he was going to make suffer and die of starvation and he would absolutely devastate the mother just so she would worship him? What sort of god do you worship? The god of sadism?

Surely you didn't miss the point by that far? The question isn't whether I want to pray but rather why would the creator have such a fragile sense of self that he requires the prayers?
