Can I stone my wife to death?

That would be a topic for another thread, the conversation is already off-topic from the OP so I'll take my leave of this thread now.

I'm sure someone else can answer your question, though.

Could you send me the answer in a PM? Or leave it here so nnmartin can see it too.

can we have a Christianity based on the NT only, as that is the part where Christ comes in and the new religion starts?

Why are you so angery you must consider this?
Stones cast when people present to the one they throw at anger and a resource to feel the pain they wish to inflict on them.
Keep in mind that God does not wish you to pick the stone up after you have cast it; once you have cast a stone you are to replace it with the ways of God.
Casting many stones is not the way of God. For the social aspects (like Afghanastan) it is a cerimony to punish for the offense. Not always kill and is for those to express the anger that came from the event.
Do not get me wrong. Just 1 stone can kill. It is how the person casts it and the weight and size of the stone.
What a heavy heart you must have to consider the stones!
Take it or them and cast them into somewhere that will do no harm.
Do not pick them back up and do not replace it with another stone.
Give your heart to God and walk with a light step and a good heart!

If I found out that my wife were having an affair would I be right to stone her to death?

Also, one of my co-workers is homosexual - should I stone him to death?

I know there is God's law and Man's law but where do we draw the line?
No, you can't stone people to death. What's wrong with you? Should I hand you a spear and teach you fire also?

Of course not.

Of course not.

But that is because I am not bound by some stone-age "holy" book with bizarre rules and regulations that were never meant for 21st century civilization.

On 2nd thoughts, "holy" books were never meant even for the time when they were supposedly revealed, leave alone the 21st century.

You would not have that right under the Mosaic law. You certainly would not have that right under the law of the Christian congregation. (1 Corinthians 5:12,13)

ok, that is interesting - thanks:)

and how about from a Christian perspective , anybody?

Captial Punishment is not a Christian thing, The Pope even condemned it

Jesus fulfilled the law (Matt 5:17) abolished capital punishment (John 8:7) and claimed various OT laws had been given due to men's hard hearts (Matt 19:8)

Homosexuality is still not consistent with the Christian sexual ethic (1 Cor 6:9-10, Rom 1:26-28) However all of humanity has sinned (Rom 3:23) and we're still asked to love them anyways (Mark 12:31)

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
He who is not guilty can cast the first stone.

In other words - none of us are qualified to cast stones.

Hmmm.... but the teachings of the holy books are valid for all times, leave alone just the 21st century. That is what makes them holy! :D

Sorry I don't know much about the Bible if this is a ridiculous question but, why did God even make the OT laws if he knew he would send Jesus anyway?

I don't know the full answer to that. I do believe that Jesus was the fulfillment of God's grace and that He is the Messiah that is spoken about in the Old Testament.

We suffer the consequences of mans law in this lifetime. It is up in the air as to whether or not we will get punished again after physical death.
