The Islamic Shahada keeps changing :(

Good morning/afternoon/evening RFers:

The current Islamic Shahada is "La Ilaha IL Allah, Mohammed Rasool Allah".

This means - "There is no god but God, Mohammed is his prophet".

However, prior to the birth of Mohammed, the Islamic Shahada was "La Ilaha IL Allah, Jesus Rasool Allah".

This means - "There is no god but God, Jesus is his prophet".

However, prior to the birth of Jesus, at some point the Islamic Shahada was "La Ilaha IL Allah, Abraham Rasool Allah".

This means - "There is no god but God, Abraham is his prophet".

However, right after Allah created the universe in six days, the Islamic Shahadah was "La Ilaha IL Allah, Adam Rasool Allah".

This means - "There is no god but God, Adam is his prophet".

Why does the Islamic Shahada keep changing? When does the message of the last prophet become irrelevant?

The second article of the Shahada isn't Quranic. It developed as Islam grew and solidified. Some modern Muslim groups such as the United Submitters International and others labeled "Quranists"reject the second article as an invention of the early Muslim community and as a form of idolatry.

That would make sense...For all the talk about Islam being purely monotheistic, including the name of a human/creation in the same sentence as the creator [Allah] seems to be a case of "shirk" [polytheism].

Let me to correct you :
However, prior to the birth of Jesus, at some point the Islamic Shahada was "La Ilaha IL Allah, Moses ( not Abraham) Rasool Allah".

However, prior to the birth of Moses, the Islamic Shahada was "La Ilaha IL Allah, Abraham Rasool Allah".

Hahaha, for some reason I find this thread funny.

Robo, don't you have any serious questions to make us believers think a little? This is child-play.

And there's no shirk in saying Muhammed is the Messenger, he's the Messenger, get it?

Accepting Muhammed as the Messenger, implies that I accept everything he says, does, etc. Where the Qur'an is a part of, the hadith are a part of, etc.

Make sense?

I agree with eselam 100%

Also to answer your questions robo, the second part of the shahadah changed because it depended on which messenger was sent to them.

All of them have the same basics of the message which is worshiping the One True God and Him Alone, making no partners beside Him. Other small things might have changed such as some laws and things of that nature, depending on what is best for the people.

Also, this form of Islam that we have now, revealed to the last prophet will stay with us till Judgement Day, after that is when you either go to heaven or hell and the test is over.

And what if there is a new messanger for Islam. Will it just update to their name?
(most of the previous ones had that they were the last which turned out not to be so...)

Allah (Azza wa Jal) tells us in the Quran that prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the seal of the prophets meaning he is the last prophet and there won't be one coming with a new shariah after him. Cause he is sent for all of mankind, till Judgement Day unlike the other prophets and messengers who were sent for their people and a certain period of time.

This is also why the Quran is preserved and the other scriptures were not.

the second part of Shahada is like following the commander in chief rather than retired one so i don't see any problem with it...

Hehehe, I agree. :D

Believing in Muhammad means:
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allāh and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination."
Al-Baqarah:285
The religion of God is one since Adam till Muhammad peace be upon them all.
