Socialist Extremists: Why Money?

The Sum of Awe

Brought to you by the moment that spacetime began.
I gotten into an argument with a Socialist, and he completely dodged this response:

Him: Everyone need not be equal in their human characteristics, but the artificiality of our monetary system only adds fuel to the fire.

Me: Then the concept of money would be pointless, make everything free then, and nobody will do a thing.

If that's the case, as long as everybody's needs are equally done, then what's the point of money?

Tell that to the hoards of people who create and modify open-source software. I don't think they got the memo because they are cranking out free software like crazy.

Socialism is an economic system in which the means of production are publicly owned. What's that have to do with this thread?

Are we debunking you, or Him?

I agree with Him. People have used trade before. Coming to a mutual agreement on what goods/services to be traded. It happens even today. It doesn't involve money.

thats a good point, we used to trade with the goods we created or made ourselves. People worked for themselves so that they could have something to trade.

now we dont have to create or make anything, we only need this little bit of metal or paper and we can buy things with that.

if anything, it is money which has killed our incentive to get creative and be motivated and industrious.

I would consider private ownership of the means of production by the workers to be socialism in some cases.

It comes down to ' a fair day's pay for a fair day's work'.

So if someone does a 12 hour shift in a factory and only brings home a few dollars for basic subsistence, whilst the owner rakes in huge profits, then something is wrong.
