Twas the night before Jesus came... Getting ready for the wedding feast

God is love

Active Member
It was the night before Jesus came and all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The scriptures were placed unread, on shelves without care,
in hopes that jesus would not see them there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.

Mom in her rocker with a baby on her lap,
was watching the late show while I took a nap.

When out of the east there arose such a clatter
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter,
and away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shudders and threw up the sash.

Then what to my wondering eye should appear,
but angels proclaiming that "JESUS IS HERE!"

The light like the sun sent forth a bright ray.
I knew in a moment this must be "THE DAY"

The light of His face made me cover my head
It was Jesus returning just like He said,
and though I possess worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life which He held in Hid hand,
was written the name of every saved man.

He spoke not a word as He searched for my name
When He said "It's not here" my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written in love,
He gathereed to take to His Father above.

This holiday celebrates His birth, His first comming to earth but we may think of it as a time to prepare for His comming again at a time of His father's choosing, during any year.

We need to get ready for His comming, be spiritually ready.

I love a song I heard on a program. I don't remember the name or all the verses but this verse I remember and love to sing.

"Getting ready for the wedding feast
Getting rid of every wrinkle and spot
holding on to the promise I've got
Getting ready, getting ready,
getting ready for the groom
Getting ready cause He's comming soon"

The artist's first name sounds like Sonya and she is the wife of one of the twin brothers who are in the "Soldiers for Christ" program.

+++ If any know this artist, her name and the name of the song and where I can get it, I would love to know, please respond.

Parable of the ten virgins
"Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins which took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom
And five of them were wise and five were foolish
They that were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them
But the wise took oil in their vessels
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept
And at midnight there was a cry made, "BEHOLD, THE BRIDEGROOM COMETH, go ye out to meet Him.
Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps
and the foolish said unto the wise, Give us your oil for our lamps are gone out.
But the wise answered, saying, not so, lest there be not enough for us and you but go ye rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came and they that were ready went in with Him to the marriage and the door was shut.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying Lord, Lord, open to us
But He answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh."
matthew 25:1-13
The bridegroom represents Jesus
the marriage feast, the second comming
the virgins, believers in Christ
Those that are foolish are those that are believers but they do not keep the commandments.
Those that are wise have received the truth and have the Holy Spirit for their guide and they keep the commandments
Although the righteous virgins would want to be charitable and share their oil, it would be impossible for them to share their obedience. It isn't something that you can immediately transfer from person to person. It is something that has to develope in a person, principle upon principle. We can be an example unto others as the saying "We may be the only bible they ever read", but they have to want to be obedient and practice the principles that we should live. That doesn't suddenly happen {overnight}.

Tp protect ourselves so we are never deceived rather we able to recognize the signs of the times,
we should have the oil of our testimonies burning bright!
Ask for the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us, to reveal to us what we need to know to be prepared.

When we think of a new year's resolution we can think of the words in the song...
" Get rid of every wrinkle and spot",
Think of how we need to improve to be better and pray to Heavenly Father
Psalms 139
"Search me O God and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting."
