We're in a "war" alright... but not a physical war:

II Corinthians 10:1 By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am "timid" when face to face with you, but "bold" when away! 2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. NIV
I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world.

Does that imply that we are required to 'police' other people, in God's absence, who think that we live by the standards of this world ? (or did that only apply to Paul) ? and by
"think that we live by the standards of this world", does this mean God's world ? (ie as it should be ?

I realize this is a Christian-only thread, but I feel I must point out that I think you have the Quakers and the Amish confused.
I think that I realized that before you responded. I edited my post.

Paul is refering to a spiritual battle... one for the hearts and minds of billions upon billions of people. We keep trying to couch this in terms of a physical battle (the Crusades, war on terror, etc).

so then for true christians God comes first, just because some manmade goverment tells people to go to war , who do we listen to man or God

In answer Peter and the [other] apostles said: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men

Indeed, that is why we also thank God incessantly, because when YOU received God’s word, which YOU heard from us, YOU accepted it, not as the word of men, but, just as it truthfully is, as the word of God, which is also at work in YOU believers (1 thessalonians 2;13)

Who have really responded to God’s command ‘not to learn war anymore’?

And it must occur in the final part of the days ..isaiah 2;2

And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore Isaiah 2;4

Who is it that have let God and his Word set matters straight among them?

Who have really responded to God’s command ‘not to learn war anymore?

Who show respect for the Bible as God’s inspired Word and obey God as Ruler?

So their consciences are clear, no matter how the militaristic minds of this world may criticize them............ it must be true christians ,those who are taught by Jehovah because they listen to Gods son
(Luke 9:35) And a voice came out of the cloud, saying: "This is my Son, the one that has been chosen. Listen to him.

Why does it seem that so many practicing Christians are War mongers? How do you justify a war of aggression in the light of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek? In light of Jesus telling us to bless and do not curse those who hate us? How do you justify the hate that is war?
it isn't justified, simple as

i believe in turning the other cheek, ok yea i have been know to loos my head in some situations, who hasn't? i will retaliate with words, as they can make more of an impact

also, we are told that if we love jesus, our love for such a loving being will radiate through our deeds in his name! if we love jesus we will love our neighbor - and on an international scale, this means loving those countries around us, not bombing them unrelentlessley, with stupid targetting that seriously endangers civilains aswell

I don't believe that war is always right. But in the case of the war on terrorism, yes,I believe it is the right thing to do.In the new testament(not the old)the bible says that the government is there to punish evildoers. It says if you don't want to be afraid of the government than you should live right. This war we(the U.S.)are in is not a war on Iraq or a war on Afganistan,it is a war on TERRORISM.Just the other day I was watching the news and they were interviewing a leader in the war.He stated that they had captured over a hundred terrorist leaders in this war so far.I realize that not everyone is going to share my opinion but if it wasn't for that verse in the new testament,I'd be on your side Netdoc. However,I've got to stick with my belief that the government is there to punish people like terrorists.

Christians are war mongers because our beloved religion has become an ideology for the right. They have taken theology out and replaced it with ideology. They use Jesus as an object to manipulate their blind followers. They tell them to support war, assasinate leaders and condemn Teli Tubies for being a certain color. We want Jesus not ideology. These false prophets profit from this false ideaology.

No light. None in... none out. Light is the source of life. Sunlight is the gift of God. To take away the light, is to take away God. Once the light has gone out, suffering is without God. People, suffering alone, without God. The heart breaks, tears fall as bombs that kill the light in others.
