Once again the political brain tries to trump its own ignorance by putting it on display.

Bachmann mentioned censorship, but if she had been alive during the Scopes trial in 1925, she almost certainly would not have favored a balanced treatment where evolution and creationism or intelligent design would be taught in public schools. The same goes for most of today's creationists.

Maybe we should let the students decide whether schools should teach flat earth theory too. Hey why not let the students decide whther they should learn chemistry or alchemy

Why should we let students decide anything?

I'm certain if given the option, they'd decide to go outside and play.

"Jon Huntsman wrote in a tweet, "To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy." LOL

It's scary when a presidential candidate feels it is necessary to apologize for accepting the consensus of scientists.

I'm sure I speak for a lot of my compatriots in expressing real gratitude to the US Republican party for brightening our autumn with the procession of knockabout comics they've placed before us. We have our own political clowns, to be sure, but none in the league of Bachmann, Cain and co. Keep 'em coming - we need the laughs.

And you're absolutely right, such a regard for science is indeed scary. Thanks for bringing it up.

"Let students choose"? Ok, let's let students choose whether or not sex education should be taught in public schools.

Years ago, Oregon voters, including the governor, voted on two occasions by public referendum to legalize physician assisted suicide. Although Republicans claim that they support states' rights, President Bush tried to overturn the Oregon Law. He eventually lost in the U.S. Supreme Court 6-3. His case was a charade. Attorney General Ashcroft, who was later replaced by Attorney General Gonzales, argued that the Controlled Substances Act says that the substances mentioned in the Act can only be used for "legitimate medical purposes," and that physician assisted suicide is not a legitimate medical purpose. Who is President Bush to determine what is or is not a legitimate medical purpose? The truth is, if Oregon had lost, they could have used other methods that are not controlled by the Controlled Substances Act, but President Bush knew that the gentlest, most effective method is by using substances that are in the Controlled Substances Act, and that other methods would be less popular.

This is somewhat relevant:
I think it's quite relevant. It goes to the core of such thinking. As Jillette says about such people and their statements,
"Do you really mean that? Really? Honestly? What do you mean when you say that? These people are good, honest, smart, not bat **** crazy people. So why the **** are they saying bat **** crazy stuff to me?

Thanks for sharing.

OMG, the scientific method decides what should be taught as science. Science. Not some politician.
