"Santmat" VS Passions,

If you ask what is "Santmat" ? Is the combination of two words "Sant" + "Mat", "Sant" is ment by "Saint" or "Spiritual teacher" or "Perfect Master" etc..
"Mat" is ment by "Belief".

If you ask "Passions" ? Lust, Anger, Greed, False attachments, and Ego.

"Santmat" says, Passions !!! ? do not fight with them :).

Way-out : Do friendship with "Virtues" because they are the enemies of passions.

For example: If somebody want to control "Lust" then do not fight, devlop the vitrue of "chastity" or "Celibacy", lust will be controled itself automatically.

Similarly take the virtue of "Forgiveness" against "Anger",
Take the virtue of "contentment" against "Greed",
Take the virtue of "Wisdom" against "False attachments",
Take the virtue of "Humality" "Humbleness" and "Meekness" against "Ego"

As, These good peoples (Virtues) will take place in your Home (Mind), bad people (passions) will leave automatically.:run:

But why not directly fight with them ?

For Example: As a former addict to nicotine, it is much the same. Once you start 'fighting' it becomes much harder. You end up smoking more. We discovered that we had to quit quitting first before actually quitting.

So what do you think ? :)

Indeed what you fight tends to resist.
Pragmatically though, people tend to need some balance between fighting and learning to let og of the fight.

Repressing some of it ends to become a necessity, but it is imoprtant that even if one represses some of the intensity of the emotions, at the same time one must have to work to let go the part of the emotion that one do can manage.

It tends to take time and not be as easy as it sounds.

Tell more about the quitting smoking, and how do you not start again?
I willed myself into quitting for a year and went back.

This is true. I chewed gum at first but got sick of it too. Then I started to eat alot and gained a bunch of weight, but was able to stop that quick. I don't go to bars much at all , but I went out with some friends one night and everybody was smoking. So I figured I'd have one too, that ended it.
