Huh?
Somethings never change. People agree to disagree. The only way I guess to resolve this issue is to go to bed. If he`s a gay, I massage his back. If she`s a lesbian, I massage her front. If he`s a guy, I let him massage my back. If she`s a woman, I let her...guess?
Pun aside. You`re correct. But most here do it for fun, camaraderie & to learn things which they did not learn in kindergarten. & most specially, human beings are by nature are social beings. They need to entwine with other human beings be it in the medium of a debate or in a heated discussion. You`d be more afraid if the people you debate with say only a few words.
I admit I do enjoy engaging in discussions which I know probably aren't going to go anywhere for some of the reasons to stated above, learning about other peoples point of view and having some sometimes intellectual or philosophical interaction with another human being which is generally lacking in normal life.
It's beneficial to understand why someone believes something even if you can'd bring yourself to agree with them. At the very least it's a more positive outcome than simply assuming that anyone with different views to yourself is just an idiot not worth bothering with which is sadly a view I've noticed some people are quite proud of holding.
I thank Stephen Jay Goulds writings for the inspiration he gave me in regards to being a little more willing to take on what other people say and try and understand their perspective even if I don't agree with it.
