Kalki Avatara

Who or what is the Kalki Avatara to you? Has He already come, or has this revelation been fulfilled?

Some Vaishnavas do believe that Kalki Avatara will indeed come at the end of this cycle of Kali-yuga. Others will have some interpretation of Kalki in a metaphorical sense, like all else. Some have made persons to be fulfillments of Kalki, such as Baha'u'llah.

Kalki is said to come at the end of Kali Yuga. So if this is taken literally, then he has not arrived yet, especially considering what he is supposed to do.

I used to believe all these stories very strongly, but these days I am wary of a lot considering that I do think there are scriptures that have been modified over time. I think that's why I rely heavily on the BG, which is utter perfection imo.

Just as everyone knew when Krsna was upon the Earth I am of the belief that everyone will know when Kalki walks upon the land.

I don't think Lord Kalki has come yet, but in my view, the time is way past right. Kali Yuga should end now (but who am I to decide?) but it has another 428,898 +- years to go. It began February 18, 3102 BCE when Lord Krishna left Earth to return to Goloka. Kali Yuga is said to be a total length of about 432,000 years.

I believe Kalki will come at the end of the Kaliyug (that is, if we haven't completely destroyed the earth by then and gone extinct). The Lord comes in different forms throughout all of the yugas and Kalki will be one to behold. I don't take it as metaphor just as I don't take Krishna or Rama as metaphor and I don't believe those "god" men who claim to be him. Let them raise Govardhan Hill then I will believe them.

I'm iffy on that and wary of those types also. On one hand, God may take very subtle and unobtrusive forms for some purpose of His. On the other hand He has in all cases so far manifested a "superhuman" form... that we know of. It could go either way. I think you have to listen to your inner self.

I'm actually curious about this myself.

When the Vishnu took his avatars in the past, it was always limited to the South Asian subcontinent. In the past couple centuries, globalization has really spread Hinduism and inter-faith awareness like never before.

For those who do take the avatars literally, do you think Kalki will show up only in India? What if he comes in another ethnicity?

Well... at the times that Lord Vishnu appeared, India was pretty much the only civilization, and evil ran rampant each time He appeared. Consider that Lord Krishna left Earth >5,000 years ago. What was happening in Europe, the rest of Asia, and the Americas? Nothing. The peoples were hunter-gatherers with no civilizations. To that end, I think He might appear almost anywhere on Earth as any ethnicity, because civilization, with all its evils, is everywhere.

Actually, the Sumerian civilization in the middle east was 6000 years ago, and 5000 years ago is about the time we can date the beginnings of the Egyptian civilization.

The assumption among Gaudiya Vaishnavas is that the whole world prior to 5,000 years ago was actually quite advanced, because the world entire world was Bharatavarsha; that is, practitioners of some form of Vedic (Vaishnava) culture, although in different gradations and expressions of that culture. Since the disappearance of Krishna on Earth, Kali-yuga then began and religious, social, and societal ideals therefore regressed into degradation and progressive corruption.

While specifically Gaudiya Vaishnavas believe that Lord Chaitanya is a 'hidden' avatara of God, and believe that the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and sankirtana (complete recitation or chanting) of God's names is yuga-avataram (the incarnation of God in this period of Dharmic decline), they are still waiting for Kalki Avatara to come in the end of this Age.

That's right. But I don't think they were as misbehaved as the Indians. :D

in puranas it is written that kalki will incarnate at the end of this epoch as was the case with the other incarnations of vishnu. rama came when it was time for treta yuga to end, krishna came when it was time for the dwapar yuga to end.
