Is that so???? What about what is written in genesis
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims
, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

I got this from Faint on another post. But it fits this case.
yes thats right , if they did not think they knew better than God , look what they could have had the tree of life , obeying rules safes lives, disobeying rules leads to death

Sure, and that's to get people to believe in the Goodness of God, only some of us arn't fooled, Satan, is older than God, God came when people learnt to think, the dark has always been there.

dont think so,
For his part, the God who gives peace will crush Satan under YOUR feet shortly. May the undeserved kindness of our Lord Jesus be with YOU....romans 16;20 he has only won with us as individuals if we let him . but soon he will be crushed for ever ,he is the ruler of the world now, 1 John 5;19 ...but not for much longer

Hey there! There ain't no war in this home *Ducks to avoid low flying shoe*........:D

Seriously Kowalski, there are two ways to see a glass - half empty, and half full .........try to look at the half full one..........

I am sure if you actually managed to get statistics to read how many people are trying to create war and strife in the world, as a gaingst quiet, peace loving folk, you'd get a surprize.

As someone said before........Just look on the bright side of life!!:)

No, if he had won, you would not have seen people giving so generously "around the globe" in the aftermath of the tsunami, Katrina and the earthquake in Pakistan.

The good is there and you don't even have to look too far. You just have to look past the newspaper headlines. Good doesn't sell.

So who was talking to when he said:

One of us? Would this imply there was more than one god. Just like he does in the 10 commandments.

Radar,
If you only believe in the literal interpretation of everything that is written and cannot infer based on what is written, then I'm sorry, but I can't help you.

I make my supposition based on what is written...not on the literal words.
So in other words you read that into it. So it is not stated in the bible it is just what someone is saying or implying. So this is written no where and it is not in the bible. christains can just make things up to suit there cause.

Do you really think that the battle between good and evil (God and the devil if you like) involves whether we give a few dollars to some charity or other? Of course we should give, but the danger is you will think you've done yourself some good in heaven to give.

One of my theories is that the devil encourages you to do these so-called good works, because it persuades you that that is all you need to do. It persuades you that getting into heaven is a question of splashing the right type of water on you, being patted on the head by the right person, and giving a few bucks to some good causes.

It is actually much harder than that. And the devil is a lot cleverer than you think he is.

How much longer? Do you think you will live to see it?

Radar,

Have you ever heard of inference? I inferred based on my reading of scripture and other books, bible classes, discussions with others who are more knowledge, etc.

Are you asking me to list every single source and cite how they inter-relate and how I got from here to there? If I had that kind of time, I'd make it a doctoral thesis.....and it would still be my opinion.

I'm not asking you to to site any source besides the bible or just admit that it is not written in the bible. That's all you have to say. That it is your opinion, your conclusion and that it is not clearly stated in the bible and someone else may take it different or conclude that these are incoherent ancient writtings by ancient man with no real knowledge of the world around them.

Yes. From a biblical perspective, I think he does have objectives which he is trying to meet. Below are a few bible references.

1. To cause Temptation (entire passage is Matthew 4:1 through 4:11)

Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."

1 Corinthians 7:5 Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

2. To Torment

1 Corinthians 7:5 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

3. To lead people astray

Mark 4:15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.
Revelation 12:9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

There really isn't any universal good or universal bad. These aren't two forces opposing each other. Good is always a matter of "good for who?" and not "good for everyone". The idea of Satan, as a darkness or an opposition to God doesn't make any sense to me. If anything, Satan represents Man and God represents what man wishes he was; but in that sense, Satan is real and God is not.

At this point I'm not even sure what the question is anymore.

Let me ask, what is God without Satan?

An ideological Utopia. But, not a reflection of reality. Dualistic religions must maintain a Satan as a scapegoat for the imperfections in the world.
